many thanks for your very interesting reply i will try B/ham records again, but i have this feeling the trial took place in Shropshire or Worcestershire and he was sent to Winson Green to serve his sentence do this sound logical ,could you be sent to a prison in a different area.

I really need some help if anyone can point me in the right direction i would be so pleased.  Robert Bannister died in Winson Green prison B/ham on the 1/7/1884 aged 38.  His 2 children were born in B/ham between 1876-78, although he was born and brought up in Herefordshire.
Census of 1881 he lived with his wife and children in Alveley Shropshire so between 1881 and 1884 he committed a offense which led to prison.  I have read the coroner report at B/ham Library but this does not tell me why he was in prison, i was also told in the library they could find no RB in any trials in the area.  Please can someone help me to where i look next

scriv2.  On 1881 census in Alveley Robert and Catherine appear, Robert aged 34  and when he died in WG  he was 38 which ties up, also the 2 children  from the marriage were born in Bham.  This also proves that the Catherine in Wolves is the wrong one.

Went to salop yesterday and read through parish deaths for alveley looking for Catherine Bannister but to no avail.  I have looked to see if she married again but no luck.  Am a bit concerned because of where her husband died.  On  her daughters  marriage  certificate  where fathers name should appear there is line drawn.  Alveleyhistiorian we have been in touch before concerning the France family.

Have you any idea where/when Catherine Bannister (Scriven) died.  I have just found out that her husband Robert died in 1884 in Winson Green prison, i am unable to find Catherine anywhere .  I am new to this web site so am 2 years late with proceedings.  Also any ideas where to look for information why  he was in prison.
