Ross & Cromarty / Confusion over place names on records
« on: Sunday 21 August 11 04:46 BST (UK)  »
I am just starting my Scottish history, not getting very far I might add!  It's all so foreign to me. I'm hoping someone can shed some light on my confusion.
William Leslie  &  Margaret McLean were married in Foveran in 1801 (IGI)  From what I have been able to find Margaret was born in Charlestown, Aberdeenshire,  their children according to the opr records were baptised in Charlestown of Gairloch, Ross & Cromarty, namely Margaret, Anna & Jean.
Is Foveran in Aberdeen, and is there a Charlestown in Aberdeen,  & Ross & Cromarty?  I can't find the original record for William & Margaret's marriage,   Can someone steer me in the right direction, how do I go about finding the actual record.

I also have a marriage for George Leslie & Ann McDonald 1843 in Charlestown (IGI) but can't find this record either

Judy.

Australia / Searching for a death
« on: Tuesday 09 August 11 03:24 BST (UK)  »
I have Ann Munro (nee Gordon)  she married John Munro in Scotland,  They immigrated to Melbourne, I can't find a record.
They had children in Broadmeadows, the last child I have found born in 1875 (Grace)

I have trawled the BDM's to try and find a death for Ann to no avail.

I did find a burial at Will Will Rook Cemetery for an Ann Munroe of Broadmeadows the age fits but can't find it on BDM,

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Australia / Help - A brick wall big time - Annie Leslie (nee Munro) Siblings
« on: Friday 09 July 10 05:48 BST (UK)  »
My Grandmother, Annie Leslie (nee Munro) born 14 April 1866 at Broadmeadows.  Parents John Munro & Ann Gordon immigrated to Aust  sometime after their marriage in 1853 in Inverness, Scotland.  Looking for Annies siblings, especially a sister who lived with her in Northcote until their deaths, we only ever knew her name as Lizzie and I have been unable to find anything about her at all. Annie is buried at Will-Will-Rook Cemetery in Broadmeadows, along with a sister Grace aged 9 and her mother.

Annie is the mother of my father, Stanley John Leslie and his twin sister Jean, born 1911 in Bundoora, they are not registered,  his five brothers born before them are all registered, so I found this odd.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Australia / Missing from1925 1942 John BALLANTYNE
« on: Wednesday 02 December 09 05:15 GMT (UK)  »
Father John Balantyne, born 1906 in England. Came to ALBANY, King george Sound, Western Australia in July 1925, age 18.

Married Gladys Taylor in 1942.

Where was he, from 1925-1942?.

I believe from my mother he was in the Merchant Navy for years,  joined up here in Australia although didn't go to the war. Mother told us he rode motor bikes also, and was involved in The Wall of Death rides in Perth area, however she was never forthcoming about family matters, therefore I'm a little lost!
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I have an ancestor,  MURDOCK BALLANTYNE, born 1n 1862, Scotland, parents George and Catherine. They later moved to Liverpool according to census records. I have found an index on Ancestry for the England & Wales Criminal Registers 1791-1892 for  MURDOCK.
Date of trial 4 Feb 1884, trial year 1844 , Location of trial Lancashire.
charge was murder , verdict Not Guilty.  He would have been aged 22.
Would anyone know if I can follow this up with records or newspapers, and if so can you help.

Shropshire / A Burial for baby Louisa wycherley
« on: Tuesday 19 May 09 03:20 BST (UK)  »
I have the deaths of both mother and child. Mother Susannah Wycherley (nee Furmston) died 02.01.1855 at Northwood Ellesmere Shrop, age 31, she is buried in the Furmston Family tomb at St Marys Ellesmere with 11 other members of her Furmston family. I have the MI's inscribed on the tomb, baby Louisa not here. I find it odd she is not buried with her mother, the babies listed on the MI's are accounted for.
Birth Certificate for Louisa Wycherley,  Northwood, father Robert,  08.10.1854.
Death index only for Louisa  Mar quarter 1855, so she would only have been a couple of months old and both mother & child died around the same time.
How do I go about finding out where this child is buried, can anybody help, it would be much appreciated
