Armed Forces / Cheshire Militia in Plymouth
« on: Friday 20 April 07 22:21 BST (UK)  »
Does any body have information regarding the mobilization of the Cheshire Militia to the Citadel in Plymouth abt 1853. I reckon they were sent there to reinforce the home defence when regulars were posted to the Crimea. Any thoughts or information would be very welcome.

Further to my previous topic, can any body help me locate the Sharpley family around Prestbury in1850's I'm particularly interested to know what happened to a Rachel Sharpley after she married a man called Isaac Reid in 1854 at Prestbury. he may have absconded.

Thank you Norma & Peter for your comments. I was allready aware of the marriage to Ellen and her early death but I had no idea that a child had been born to them. I am also aware that this Isaac possibly re married a lady called Rachel Sharpley at the same church in 1854.
My current brick wall revolves around the fact that I cannot positively confirm this Isaac Reid as my great great grandfather but what I do know is MY Isaac reid was born in or around Macclesfield in the same year as the aforementioned Isaac and that he was also a silk weaver. He was however posted to Plymouth with the Cheshire militia and married a lady called Amelia (My Great Great Grandmother) late 1855. the marriage cert says he is a bachelor but being so far from Macclesfield it was easy to lie and if so all the pieces of the jigsaw suggest a bigamous marriage.
My research needs to confirm what happened to Racheal Sharpley after her marriage to a man called Isaac Reid but I cannot trace her anywere. If they enjoyed a long and happy marriage then this Isaac ain't my ancestor however any other scenario then I may have a rather dubious ancestor to consider.
