Census Lookup and Resource Requests / Re: 1861 Devon Census (Stockland)
« on: Thursday 28 October 04 15:49 BST (UK)  »
Hi

I realise that this is an old post and so you may already have found the information you wanted ::). However, here goes -
RG9/1372 Folio 61 Page 23

Lodge (Hodge?)  Lake -

Thomas Manning 65 Head - Stone Mason (Born) Dorset Beaminster
Dinah Manning 65 Wife - (Born) Dorset Stockland
Henry Manning 16(?)  Son - Tailor (Born) Dorset Stockland
Sarah J Manning 7 Grandchild - (Born) Dorset Brandcombe
James Beer 6 Lodger - (Born) Devon Membury

Stockland seems to have wandered across the border between Dorset and Devon and appears in Dorset in 1861.

I also have copies of the microfiche for Stockland Parish registers, so if you would like anything else looking up, please let me know.

Regards

Angela

Dorset Lookup Requests / Re: Dorset census 1831 - 1861
« on: Thursday 28 October 04 14:31 BST (UK)  »
Hi Theresa

I've had a look on the 1851 Dorset census. In Stratton there are two Fox families.  The only possible promising family is -

Philip Fox Head 61 Farm Labourer Born Bere Regis, Dorset
Sarah Fox Wife 63 Born Leigh, Dorset - (She was blind)
William Fox Son 21 Farm Labourer Born Stretton
Martha Harlick Neice 10 Born Wool, Dorset

If this is of interest, I could send you a copy of the image off-line

The 1831 census didn't have names on it and I don't have the other censuses. Perhaps someone else can help with Frederick Issacs

Hope this helps

Wiltshire Completed Lookup Requests / Re: REYNOLDS in Melksham 1851 census
« on: Tuesday 19 October 04 18:51 BST (UK)  »
Hi Sues

I've found a John Reynolds in the Baptism register for Melksham St Andrew but the baptism date is 28 august 1842. If this is the right one, his parents are William and Sarah and the 1851 census entry for the household is -

Melksham (HO 107 Piece 1840 Folio 8 Page 9 + Folio 9 Page 10)

REYNOLDS William 41 Gardener Kington Langley
Sarah 46 Melksham, Wilts.
William 13 Scholar Melksham, Wilts.
Sarah 12 Scholar Melksham, Wilts.
Mary Ann 11 Scholar Melksham, Wilts.
John 8 Scholar Melksham, Wilts.
Eliza 7 Melksham, Wilts.
REYNOLDS Daniel 3 Scholar Melksham, Wilts.
TARRANT John Lodger 20 Servant Devizes, Wilts.

Hope this helps

Completed Census Requests / Re: 1891 Wiltshire SEALY
« on: Tuesday 19 October 04 17:01 BST (UK)  »
Thank you very much Ruth - got them now!

Now the only puzzle is - I wonder what they were doing there....

It's not a huge distance, but Basil was an ordinary agricultural labourer and spent all his life in Charlton, Pewsey. He's back there in 1901.

I just wish sometimes I could ask these people what they're up to ::) !!

Thanks again

Completed Census Requests / 1891 Wiltshire SEALY
« on: Tuesday 19 October 04 16:32 BST (UK)  »
Although I've got the scans for 1891 Wiltshire, I don't have an index, so can't find Basil Sealy (my g grandfather) This is the only time he seems to have moved an inch from his native village of Charlton. ???
If some kind soul could just point me to the right village, I can carry on from there.

Thanks very much

Angela

I'm very reluctant to post this as the answer must be really obvious! I've searched the help pages and everywhere I can think but still can't work out how to send a private message.

Sorry about this

Completed Census Requests / Re: Where can I get records/census on CD
« on: Wednesday 29 September 04 09:52 BST (UK)  »
I'd just like to add Gordon Beavington's web-site address, as I've found his census CDs to be of very reliable quality and significantly cheaper than other suppliers. He's also very helpful!

In addition to the helpful information others have supplied, you might like to have a look at Kevin Asplin's web site -

http://hometown.aol.co.uk/kevinasplin/home.html

He includes lists of men serving in several campaigns, including the Boer War. This was the only place I found reference to my grandfather and Kevin was kind enough to obtain his service record for me on a subsequent visit to Kew.

Hope this helps
