England / Jane Lampard
« on: Friday 14 December 07 17:21 GMT (UK)  »
I am trying to trace a marriage for Jane Lampard born 1827 in Sussex. Her family actually came from the Frindsbury area in Kent and on the 1841 census she is shown with her family as living in Kent, but
born in Sussex (as was her brother Joseph) so one must assume the family relocated for a while before moving back to Kent. Incidentally, her parents were Stephen Maynard Lampard and Jane Silver.
I found a possible marriage for her in Greenwich, Vol 5 Pg 393 Dec qtr 1850. If this is correct, then she married James Smith Nickalls.
I found an 1851 census record for Jane Nickalls and Jane Nickalls (one of which was obviously an incorrect transcribe as original record shows James!) but both of these people show being born in Kent. I cannot find a later census record for either of them.
Its possible Jane put her place of birth down as Kent as she probably spent most of her life there, but I am making a lot of suppositions and I would appreciate another pair of eyes and another person's opinion on this one.

The Common Room / cawte marriage
« on: Friday 07 September 07 10:01 BST (UK)  »
I have been contacted by another researcher regarding a possible marriage for Frances Esther Cawte born 1829 in Botley. My contact says she married Thomas Crockley Rowden at the Parish Church Islington on 23 Jan 1862. I have looked on freebmd and ancestry uk and I have a possible marriage
for Frances as Islington vol 1b 190. I have a possible marriage for Thomas as Islington vol 1b 290.
If they are actually man and wife, one of the references may be wrong.
Bearing in mind that they would have married in 1862, I cannot find a census record for them in 1871.
My contact advises me that by 1881 they had gone to New Zealand but is not sure whether they
came back.
If anyone can find out anything I would be most grateful.
Incidentally, Frances Esther Cawte's parents were John Cawte and Elizabeth Houghton.
I will check back later to see if any progress made (hospital appt for now, sorry!)

The Common Room / Elizabeth Lampard
« on: Monday 20 August 07 09:26 BST (UK)  »
I am currently researching the Lampard family and have found an 1861 census which shows Elizabeth Lampard as the niece of William and Matilda Roberts. My first thought was that Matilda's maiden name was Lampard. However, the only marriage record I can find is for William and Matilda Brandom Sept 1852 at Bethnal Green.  William and Matilda are in their early 20s so I would have thought it unlikely that Matilda was married before.
Any ideas?

One Name Studies: A to G / CAWTE Upham/Wickham and Botley areas 1600-1800s
« on: Saturday 18 August 07 17:11 BST (UK)  »
I am currently researching the Cawte family and have traced them back to Richard Cawte who was born in Winchester in 1595 and obtained land in Upham 27 Sept 1604). He married Tomlinson Kinge at St Peter Cheesehill Winchester 4th May 1620.
They had at least 2 children, Richard (no date of birth known) and Robert baptised 27 Sept 1633 Upham. Nothing else known about Richard, but Robert married Ellen Barton 20 Oct 1663 in Upham and they had several children. Robert bap. 17 Jan 1665, Daniel no date of birth but buried 1700 Upham, Dorothy bap. 9 Apr 1678, Ellen bap. 25 Apr 1680, Mary bap.12 Dec 1686 and Richard bap.6 Nov 1674.
Of these children, I only know of two marriages. Ellen married James Purdey in Upham 9 Nov 1703. I don't know if they had any children.
Richard married Elizabeth Turner in Upham 18 July 1706 and had 4 children. Elizabeth bap. 30 May 1707, Richard bap 20 March 1709, Mary (no dates known) and Robert bap. 14 sept 1711. They were all born in Upham but Robert moved to Botley after his marriage to Elizabeth Blake in Winchester Cathedral 3 Oct 1742.
I would like to track down any missing marriages and/or their children. I have searched on LDS site familysearch.org but have been unable to get hold of any additional information.
If anyone can help me out I would be most grateful.

Kent Completed Lookup Requests / Henry Lampard born 1823
« on: Wednesday 15 August 07 08:42 BST (UK)  »
Hi, I am new to this message board so please bear with me if I have "posted" in the wrong place or have not given sufficient information.
I am trying to trace parents of Henry Lampard born in Rainham Kent. I found an Individual Record on familysearch.org which gives details of an Ancestral file. (No microfilm details supplied). This states that Henry was born in 1823, father Henry Lampard (no mother's name given) and married to Caroline Barnaby 10 Aug 1844 Strood Kent.
I can also find Henry on 1851 census, married to Caroline. HO107/1609,Folio 495, page 17, On the census his date of birth is again shown as around 1823.
I cannot find any other definite matches to Henry either before his marriage to Caroline or after 1851.
There is a possible match for Henry in 1841 census where head of household is the mother, Sarah.
HO107, piece 491,book 10, 8A Folio 11 Page 17 Line 16
I had previously linked Henry to parents Henry Lampard married to Sarah Rogers and if this is correct it is possible that his father had died by the time of the 1841 census and Sarah was a widow.
However, I have now been contacted by another family researcher which shows that another of Henry and Sarah's children was born in Malta in 1823 so either my dates of birth are wrong or my
parents are wrong in this case.
I have been told that familysearch records cannot be relied upon if they don't specify microfilm numbers. I have looked on Cityark and cannot find a birth record for Henry in either 1823 or 1826
so I don't really know how to establish what to do next.
Can anyone offer any advice?

Buckinghamshire Lookup Requests / Lookup Request - GOWERS - Slapton
« on: Friday 15 June 07 08:17 BST (UK)  »
This is my first message, so please be gentle with me!
Is anyone able to look at parish records for Slapton in Bucks for me? I have found Thomas Gower b.1758 in Slapton and he married Sarah Pantlin 11.11.1782. Thomas' parents were Thomas Gower and Mercy Smith. I have found a record of Thomas and Mercy's marriage on 15.10.1753 at St Leonards Buckingham
but I cannot find their birth records. I do have one possibility for Thomas which is an IGI record 26.11.1727 in Aston Abbots.
Also, I have a record for William Gower b. 6.10.1811 in Slapton. His  birth record shows parents are Thomas and Sarah but I need to know Sarah's surname so I can establish whose son he is (I have two Thomas and Sarahs in my tree and he could belong to either!)
Any clues would be gratefully received. Many thanks.    Lynda
