There is a National Archives Research Guide Second World War 1939-1945: prisoners in British hands at http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/records/research-guides/pow-displaced-persons.htm#16253

Stan

Thanks for that Stan I've bookmarked that for further research.

The Lighter Side / "Heir Hunters" TV program #2
« on: Wednesday 16 March 11 22:26 GMT (UK)  »
Hi thought I would start the ball rolling again.

In I think it was yesterdays program, the one featuring the German POW, I found that particularly interesting as my former father in law was in this category. And like the featured person he didn't want to talk about it really. He stayed in England and married an English woman and settle down and had a family.

He died a few years ago and we were wondering about tracing his record while he was a prisoner, we have very little info about that time of his life, so any pointers as to where to look, or who to contact please?

Hi there

There was something a bit weird on today's program. When Celtic went to the welsh registrar, I noticed that the registrar took a register from the safe multiple times to check different queries. It was the same one from the same position on the same shelf.

Now either he must be very forgetful or was it a case of shoot one scene, use for all?  ;D

Great to see how the Pros do it though.

Oh yeh, the wall at the end of the office, where the air con is could do with a dust off some time.  ;)

Hi again

I've got a bit more info from my cousin re. the Axons I was enquiring about.

Arthur R Axon b c.1907 married my Aunt, Constance M Eldridge in 1931, Eastry reg district.
They had 1 son, Alan who lost his dad when he was quite young. I was told that the doctor was treating his dad at the time and that Alan found his dad dead in bed.

No other info atm, a wedding cert cannot be found yet for them, may have been lost over time or just mislaid.

Thanks

Thanks for that Valda

That's great, sort of backed up was I wondered, the extra baptisms info show they were moving about a bit at that time. Now just need to track down Albert's one.

Hi Anne-Marie

So far I have only sketchy info about Arthur but after digging a little more I think that he is the one b 1907 as you suggested. It looks like the marriage was to my Aunt Constance M ELDRIDGE in 1931 Eastry district.

Before you go digging deep into your data I will get in touch with my cousin next week when she is back from Dubai and see what other info she can give me. If she has more details then of course that could probably answer my questions anyway.

When I have contacted her I will post here of course.

Till then take care
John

Hi again

The death date was from my cousin, her daughter in a letter about a week ago before she went off on holiday. In it she states:-

Quote
3rd March 1943 dad married Constance May Axon a widow with a son Alan.  ----- Mum died 11 July 2002.
That would have been in the Deal area.

I remember visiting them in the 50's and 60' and seeing them much later.

Hi casalguidi

Constance M ELDRIDGE looks right I had found that before but was not sure if it was the same person. She only remarried once as far as I know and that was to Albert James as mentioned in my earlier post.
