Gloucestershire / Cheltenham marriage c1825
« on: Monday 03 March 08 01:51 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

I have a Caroline Major, born Cheltenham about 1827. On her marriage cert (to John Jones in 1856, London) her father is Anthony Major, architect.

I have Caroline in 1841, with her brothers and sisters and an adult, Ann (age 40), who I assume is her mother. The only Anthony Major who fits the bill is at a different address (age 40) and a builder.

In 1851, Caroline is the head of house, with a brother and sister living with her. No sign of Anthony or Ann (there are references to deaths for an Anthony Major and also Ann Major between 1841 and 1851).

There is another Anthony Major in the area, but he is an Ag Lab on the census returns.

I would be grateful is someone could look in the parish records at Cheltenham for a marriage of Anthony Major, builder, in about 1825-6, and also maybe his birth record in about 1800. I found another Anthony Major in Piggotts marriage register who married in Cheltenham in 1790's, who may be his father.

Thanks, John

Oxfordshire / Handborough parish records
« on: Monday 03 March 08 01:25 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

I have traced a line back to Mark Weller (born c1816, Handborough) and Emma Slatter (born c1822-4, Handborough). They married at Handborough 21/10/1843.

I would be grateful if someone could look up their births in the parish records to tell me their parents/occupations, etc

Many thanks, John

Dublin / Dublin dancing master 1770-1800
« on: Saturday 19 January 08 16:33 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

Does anyone have any info on a 'Dublin dancing master' called John Duvall from about 1770-1800?

Info obtained from a Google enquiry [John Duvall dancing master] says he invented a kind of dance.

I have a marriage cert of a John Duvall (dancing master) from Liverpool in 1764, to an Ann Atkinson. He may be my ggggggrandad?

I am especially interested in his family (if any).

John

Lancashire Lookup Requests / Moses Hughes - Liverpool 1841 and 1851
« on: Friday 28 December 07 13:45 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

My ggggrandparents were Moses Hughes and his wife Jane. Don't know their birth years, but I think they married at St Nicholas, Liverpool in 1829. My gggrandmother Ann Hughes was christened in Nov 1831 (St Davids, Liverpool).

Can't find the family in 1841 and I haven't got access to the 1851, so could do with help finding them. I think daughter Ann was working in Wales in the 1851, so may not be with them then.

I think Moses died in 1860, and the only occupation I have for him was a labourer on Ann's marriage cert in 1860.

Thanks, John

Hi
Bernard King (age 29, fish porter) married Sarah Whitfield (21) in November 1901, both giving 3Ho,24Ct Eldon St, Liverpool as their address.

Can someone please look up these people in the 1901 census, to provide details of where they were at the census time (and where they were born).

Thanks, John

Lancashire Lookup Requests / 1851 look-up for Ann Hughes, Liverpool (or Chester)
« on: Monday 19 November 07 11:52 GMT (UK)  »
Hi
Ann Hughes (my gggrandmother) was born in Liverpool (according to census records) about 1833. About 1860 she married Edward Hughes and went to live with his family in Flintshire.

I know her maiden name was Hughes from the birth cert of one of her children (Moses Hughes b1867). I think I have found her marriage cert (20/2/1860 at St Mary, Chester). Both names and ages are correct (she was 26), and Edwards fathers name (John) is correct. On the cert it has Anns dad as Moses Hughes (labourer) - which ties in with her calling one of her sons Moses.

I'd be convinced it was the correct cert, apart from the marriage being in Chester and both of them residing at Handbridge (near Chester). The family may have moved to the Chester area after she was born, I suppose.

Could someone please look up Ann Hughes (age about 17) with a father Moses in Liverpool (or maybe Chester?) in 1851.

Thanks, John

Flintshire / Glan Raven public house, Halkin 1867
« on: Thursday 08 November 07 21:06 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

From a birth certificate, I have found that my gggrandad was the publican of the Glan Raven public house in Halkin (December 1867).

I have looked at the OS map for Flintshire (1869-1872), but cannot find this pub in Halkin or the surounding area.

Does anyone know where this pub was, or if it is still around?

John
