Chatters,

If your forebears were methodists from the Dursley area you might find my recent posting in resources illuminating.

Good luck.

??,

One very useful facility of the Pilot site - http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#p=home - is that you can search a parish for the record of the children having a particular christian name.

I note that there are a few Ruths - did not check any- so you might get useful pointers to her possible maiden name.

Chatters,

I transcribed these over five years ago and until just now, I thought I'd lost the floppy they were on.

I wish all church records were as informative.

Good hunting

Mel,

If Simon's Dec. qtr marriage to Ann A or Ann B (as given in freebmd) was his second marriage, his marriage cert. will indicate that his status was widower;  so your best move seems to be to obtain the certificate from the GRO.

Bristol has many parishes/places of worship as you can see at http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~hughwallis/IGIBatchNumbers/CountryEngland.htm so you might be advised to search some of them if they have M batches for the appropriate years.

Regards

Chas

P.S. See also the Resources Messages index for Gloucestertshire LDS missing batches.  By the way, changing the prefix C to an M can often bear fruit.    Chas

Tracey,

I do not have time to search - it's more interesting to DIY anyway - but have a look in the Resources Messages Index for Gloucestershire LDS missing batches and follow the link.  Using the St P & J batch numbers in the Hugh Wallis site might bear fruit.

Good luck.

Dor,

Looks like the info. you gave came from the 1861 census via the Pilot LDS's site so I had a look through the 1851 - no joy!

Have you tried looking for Robert House?  There's a few in the 1851 census but I did not examine them.

??,

Spent quite a while looking at an old map - see my posting down the page - showing Hotwells but could not find any place you quote but you might be luckier.  Even if you're not lucky, you'll find it interesting I expect.

Helina,

There are many W.R. deaths registered in Bristol 1841 to 1860 so I think it likely that your W.R. was among them, so perhaps you should close this dead end line of research.

Helina,

Your last implies that you think that William's wife was named Ann.

Is that correct?

Chas

P.S.  Are you as sure as possible that William was indeed married?  What evidence have you for thinking he was married?
