Thank you for your reply. This photo was in a trunk owned by my g-g-grandfather with no identifying information. I have been thinking the building is Ireland. It does not look like any in the southern US in that time. The girl's hair style seems to be very unusual.
Thanks again.

Nehemiah McCaughan died 2-5-1902 at age 62. I do not have his birth date.
You will sometimes see his surname spelled McCahan but he is McCaughan.
Mary Ann is on the 1911 Census on Ann Street in Ballycastle. You can get more on the 1911 Census.

Nehemiah McCaughan and Mary Ann McGowan were married
15 Sept 1864 at Ramoan.
The brides family was John McGowan.

I have been researching McCaughans for several years. I have a McCaughan family tree chart listed many of the McCaughans of Antrim. When I  saw your  Samuel McCaughan, I went to the family tree and found a Samuel whose mother was a McGowan ( Mary Ann McGowan ). I do not know for sure if there is a
connection but I think it is very likely. I do not have any more info on Mary Ann. I'll
see if I can find something. A RootsChat search may be useful.

You may have this information already but if not it maybe helpful.
I think the Samuel McCaughan listed in the will is the son of Nehemiah McCaughan and Mary Ann  McGowan. She died 5-5-1920 age 89.
Samuel McCaughan lived in Ballycastle and died 15-1-1939 age 67.
John McGowan was likely his uncle?

I was hoping they might the same family. Looks like we both have more work to do. Thank you for your reply.

Could the family you are researching be the one on the 1841 census shown living at
Mount Eagle, Fearn?

D. Munro Widow     age 50
Margaret Munro      age 20
Donald Munro         age 15
Bell Munro              age 10
William Munro         age  8

Since William is 8 years old, this "D" Munro likely died in the period from 1833 to 1841. I assume the "D" is Donald. I also assume the Bell is Isabella.
I am looking at this family as a possible connection with my g-g-grandfather.

This Thomas McCaughan  was the son of Thomas Knox McCaughan and Catherine McBride.
He was married to Jean Wilson.
