Does that mean if one's ancestors moved around the country to any extent you'll be chasing all over the place.

Christopher

I'm afraid so Christopher.

RonnieG  I have been in touch with the reference library, but its not looking good at present, I have had 2 emails saying (havnt been able to locate electoral rolls yet!!!) But you and Christopher have  given me food for thought anyway for which I thank you, also Aghadowey, I have sent for Lynns Army records this week hopefully it might have the Ireland address on them, so might have some more to go on. I at least will know what churches are nearby.  Best Wishes Julie.

Julie,

I've been thinking. Your late husband's name should be on school registers somewhere and there should be medical records too.

Christopher
Hi Christopher, Thankyou for your thoughts, Now its the strangest thing because I actually hired the services of a researcher in Dundalk( Lynn went to Point Road Dundalk ) But  it seems the register records only went as far as 1925, probablybecause confidentiality issuesarose after that time, I even sent a copy of Lynns death certificate across because the lady concerned was going to look at when the school closed it would have amalgamatedinto another school in the area, but unfortunately for reasons only she knows she stopped communicating with me!!!!Perhaps she got fed up with brick walls!!!!!I will never give up.  Thankyou again for your thoughts on the subject. Julie.

Hi Julie (and Christopher)

So far as I am aware there is no centralised record for the electoral rolls but rather each Local Authority would be responsible for keeping the roll for their area.

I myself, have looked at the electoral register for Dublin in The Dublin City Archives in Pearse Street where they have an excellent computerised search facility.

Louth County Council has a Genealogy service and they mention electoral rolls but for a much earlier period. I think it very likely that they would have registers of a more recent vintage too but in what format and how easily searched I couldn't say.

It would be well worth asking the question and they can be contacted at referencelibrary[at]louthcoco.ie

At the  risk of sounding rude could I ask you how sure you are of the name Dello?

Do you have any "official documents" showing this name? Is it possible that it was an alias or a.k.a.?

Good luck in your search

RonnieG

Hi RonnieG, Yes I am as certain as I can be about the name, please excuse my ignorance but what is a a.k.a.? there were no official documents, with his name on, he wasnt adopted officially, just brought up by the McCann family, well I might add, he was a good man. He actually became a British citizen, after many years in the British Army, swearing on oath that what he said was what he thought to be true. Of course we had to advertise in the Irish newspapers pryor to that in case anyone new different. I am gratefull for any help anyone can give. Thankyou. Juliefay.

Hi Julie,

The National Archive of Ireland may have them. If they haven't they should be able to point you in the right direction. I've sent a message to a member in the Dublin area to see if they know where the Rolls are kept.

Chris.
   Thankyou so much.   Julie.

What about the Electoral Rolls for Ireland in the 1930s ???

I'm still going with the name Bellow. I've just looked at Irish Ancestors Surname Search (based on Griffiths Valuation) and found that the only county in Ireland where the surname Bellow and the surname Lynn appeared in the same parish is Co. Louth. It sometimes pays to have a look back in time.
Thats an idea, how do you get to look at them?

If the mother died in childbirth around that time have you tried searching for a death certificate c1935 surname DELLO?
I am in UK but like I said I spoke to the Registry office in  Dublin, and they had a look for me, nothing.

No I dont think it was a formal adoption, In fact I know it wasnt, but he was brought up a Catholic so thats why I wondered if maybe there was a baptism. He was brought up to believe his Mother died in childbirth but as I said Ive been in touch with Dublin and there were no deaths recorded around that time.(with a name remotely like that)

First let me say thankyou for such a fantastic site, and all the super people that give their time to help others. I have been trying without success for several years to find the Roots to my late husband (LYNN DELLO) Born 8/3/1935 he was fostered and raised in Dundalk, by a John McCann, who died aprox 1959. Now Lynns birth was not registered, (have spoken to Dublin register office) and cannot seem to find anyone with a name like that in Ireland, around that time or since, just recently thought I had struck gold in Dublin, turned out his name was Bello!!!Lynn died prematurely aged 46 in 1981. Can anyone help Please?
