The Common Room / Workhouse and prison deaths

Does anyone know how to find out if a prisoner or someone in the workhouse is connected to your family tree.I have seen a few people who i cant find on a census record but i do find them in Prison or the Workhouse but there is no way of knowing if they are mine.Anne.

I have a few ancestors that were hawkers according to the census records.What did a hawker actually do.I see them as a kind of gypsy or a rag and bone man trawling the countryside for anything they think is worth a few shilling.Am i right in thinking that.Anne.

Northumberland / Where are mills at Alnwick

I wonderd if anyone knows of weaving mills in or near Alnwick.My Grt Grt Grt Grandfather was born in Carlisle but married and lived all his life in Alnwick.On all the census records it has his occupation as weaver right up till he died between 1861 and 1871.I didnt know there were any mills in Alnwick or even near Alnwick,so where would he be weaving.Anne.

I wonderd if anyone has the national burial index for Alnwick Northumberland.I am looking for the death details of Mabel Renwick,Mabel died between 1851 and 1861 in Alnwick,probably Cannongate,her husband was Thomas Renwick he died in Alnwick between 1861 and 1871.Thankyou for any help.Anne.

Would anyone know which parish Holystone near Rothbury would come under.I am trying to find my Grt Grt Grt Grandmothers maiden name she was born in Holystone Northumberland in about 1796.Her Christian name was Mabel,she married Thomas Renwick who was born in Carlisle St Mary and lived and died in Alnwick.Thankyou for any help.Anne.

I am trying to help a friend get started with her family tree and i am haveing trouble trying to find them on the 1861,1881,and 1891 census fro Maybole.They were liveing at Kirkwynd in 1871 and Kirklands in 1851.From the years 1860 right through till 1870 there were children born,so i know they were there but i cant find them.The family is called Mcallister.
1871 census for Kirkwynd Maybole.
John Mcallister head age 47 born Ireland
Sarah wife age 45 born Ireland.
John son age 17 born Maybole
Susannah age 11 born Maybole
Sarah age 6 born Maybole
William age 4 born Maybole
Daniel age 3 born Maybole
Alice age 7 months born Maybole.
They had 5 boarders liveing with them.
I cant understand why i cant find them when i know they are there.Can anyone help.Anne.

I know this might sound stupid but does anyone know where St Marys Carlisle is on the map.I have searched for St Marys but cant seem to find it.My ancestors were Renwicks and came from Carlisle St Mary.Any help appreciated.Anne.
