Lancashire Lookup Requests / Irlam & Warrington - specific addresses
« on: Wednesday 02 April 08 23:12 BST (UK)  »
Pls could anyone look up 2 addresses in the electoral rolls for c1907-16?
(not necessarily every year!)

Richard Nightingale BANKS  & Jessie BANKS
1901 census address - Holly House, (between 194 & 196) Liverpool Road, Irlam  (St John parish / Eccles SE)

1916 address - Firbank, Penketh, Warrington. - (this address from newspaper cutting of sons death on Somme)  but we dont know if Firbank is a road or house !

Seeking to pinpoint their 2 sons after they reached voting age of 21 and when the family moved addresses.  Roland Graham B was 21 in 1905/6  and Richard Nightingale B was 21 in 1906/7.
Richard may have dropped his middle name and we cannot find a marriage or death in the BMDs.
But if he is a registered voter we may be able to see when he left home!

Many thanks!
Richard

Cheshire / Surname BANKS - Any ideas for finding someone post 1911 !!
« on: Monday 31 March 08 10:42 BST (UK)  »
Like many other people I'm having trouble tracking down an ancestor in the early 1900s (post 1911 !!)

my great uncle Richard Nightingale BANKS was born in Chorlton Lancs,  (some family links with Warrington) but no clue as to where he got married (if at all)  or his death.  I do not know if he emigrated.
But his wife and son are listed as "Mrs BANKS and nephew N. BANKS"  as mourners at my grandfathers funeral (Llewelyn GRIFFITH, schoolmaster at Stockport Grammar School - full page report in Advertiser) in Stockport in 1937.   (Must be Richard's  wife as his only brother Roland was killed in WW1 and no marriage traced for him)

We have searched and checked some BMD  entries but nothing matches up for a Richard Banks, and there is nothing with his middle name, though he might have dropped it.
I cant remember if i have checked the phone books for Stockport, but Richard and his family could be anywhere, and there must have been some reason why he was not at the funeral in 1937.

the father (also Richard Nightingale )  of Richard, Roland and Mary my grandmother,  was buried at Norbury Stockport in 1922 and was living in Stockport, as was Llewelyn and Mary.  We dont know anything about Richard junior - where he was living, where he got married or his wifes name or his death.  Mary died in 1967  but until the last few years my sister and I didnt even know of the existence of our grandmothers brothers !  and we are in our  late 50s, Stockport born and bred.

Any ideas / help appreciated.  (Im now in Portsmouth!!)

England / Electoral rolls - have any ever been indexed by name?!

Like many other people I'm having trouble tracking down an ancestor in the early 1900s (post 1911 !!)
Obviously you need an address to check the electoral rolls, but if you havent a clue its time consuming to search them.
Is there a legal obstacle as to why the electoral rolls cannot be scanned and indexed by name in some way?

Durham / William ORD c1880
« on: Thursday 20 September 07 23:50 BST (UK)  »
Im looking for the birth or family of,  or connections to, a William ORD  According to censuses  he was born c1880 Stockton,  and on his marriage to Jane HILL in Hartlepool 1905.
He was then a florist which ties up with 1901 census where he was a flower hawker in Hartlepool.
1891 census - William (age 10) is apparently with parents George & Martha Ann in Monkwearmouth, with sister Jane Ann age 2.
1901 census also gives George & Martha still in Monkwearmouth with rest of family.

1905 Marriage cert states fathers name as George.
But Cannot find family in 1881 census!

The birth indexes are also coming up negative in tracing him and proving his parents names.  1880 and other births do not match up,
1880  1Q Middlesborough Reg Dist birth in Ormesby, but father is William and mother Mary Ann.
1880 3Q Easington birth - parents names John & Jane.
Only one in 1883 gives his father as George, but mothers name is Isabella.
1882 Durham - parents Thomas & Sarah.

While census and marriage cert state William was born Stockton, the registration districts and place names are confusing to try and work out his birth!!
Could the family be missing from the 1881 census?

Why do the birth indexes not match up - is he also missing from those as well?!

Any help appreciated !!   Either from ORD researchers or anyone familiar with reg districts and place names!!
I live in Portsmouth so cannot visit that far north!!!
Thankyou!
