« on: Wednesday 29 September 04 02:13 BST (UK)  »
Hello All

I was hoping if someone might be able to help me with a 1822 marriage entry in the Hothfield PRs from the Canterbury Cathedral Archives.

Marriage
22 May 1820 Thomas HALL otp to Caroline Shipwash otp
by Banns. Witnesses William Hughes, Phebe B--ney ??? and William Giles
Baptisms
27 May 1821 Edwin son of Thos and Caroline HALL
25 Aug  1822 JAMES son of      """""""""""""""""
15 Mar  1824 John Wood(s) son of   """"""""""""""
24 Mar  1826 George             son of    """"""""""""""

My question is what does the otp stand for after Thomas and Caroline's name ?

I have found out a bit about Bann marriages. Very interesting.
Hoping someone can shed some light.
Thanks

Kent Completed Lookup Requests / Re: anybody heard of the name Shipwash
« on: Saturday 25 September 04 23:52 BST (UK)  »
Thanks alot Pauline and EmPers for your replies. Sorry I should have written that my James was James Shipwash Hall. My apologies.
I had a look at  www.familysearch.org / www.familyhistoryonline.net and  found some Shipwash people who were from Kent,  there must be some connection there I just have not found it yet.
I also found the entries on Free BMD and I am having a closer look at them.
I really have to find James's immigration record to Australia however living in WA means I can't get to visit the VIC Public Records Office. it seems most of my ancestors first went to Vic before crossing over to WA.
Once again thanks for your help

Kent Completed Lookup Requests / anybody heard of the name Shipwash
« on: Thursday 23 September 04 22:42 BST (UK)  »
Hello everyone

I have a Caroline Shipwash in my family who married a Thomas Hall on the 22 May 1820 at Hothfield in Kent. This is a most unusual name and I have hit a bit of a stumbling block in relation to this family.
I was hoping that someone may have come across this unusual name in their travels.
They had a son James Shipwash born approx 1822 who is my direct ancestor who came to Australia approx 1862.
I am grasping at straws now so I hope someone can give me some ideas.
Apparently Thomas Hall was a soilitor and James came out to Australia with the Bank Of England.

Many thanks

Hello Kris

Wow thanks alot. Sorry I should have added Edwin's name in the original message. It would have made things much easier for sure.
Definetely looks like they all were in England in 1851. Now I can work on getting their shipping records to Australia.
I really appreciate your help.

Thanks Troods

Completed Census Requests / Re: 1851 Census lookup Devonshire please

Hello Kris

Many thanks for the info relating to my William Williams. I am not sure if this is him.
I am finding that it was such a popular name in England. It is becoming a bit of challenge now when I am searching for him.
The reason I asked for 1851 census is that he came to Australia with his wife Elizabeth and some children approx between the time frame of 1852 - 1860.
I was hoping that if I found him in the census that would give me a definite date that he was in England and I could go on from that.
An old aunt passed on alot of info to me however some of it I have proved to be wrong. I know one of his children was Edwin born 1839 in Devon ( my gggrandfather).
I have been trying to find a shipping record for him in Victoria Australia however it's such a popular name. It's like looking for a needle in a haystack.
Once again thanks for your help and if you have any ideas I am all ears.
Thanks
Troods
