Thank you for the information, I am learning something new all the time.

These are the 2 daughters born in 1886 & 1888.  This picture was taken around 1943.
They married in 1909 & 1910 so I am thinking the photograph could not be them because they had no family until later.  Think they bear a resemblance to great-grandmother !

I have been trying to find out on the Cumberland site about a photographer called J Merhin whose stamp is apparently on the back of this photograph but no luck so far. I've asked long lost cousin in USA to scan the back of the photograph to see if we can unravel the spelling which she wasn't sure about.

So your thoughts are that this was taken about 1905 or that sort of period.  Are the children dressed fashionably for that time ? Is the furniture also in keeping ? Sorry to ask so many questions but I haven't a clue.  This lady died in 1914. The other children they had were both boys in 1891 & 1896 and none of the older ones were married or had children of that age.  Think this is going to be an on going mystery. 
I have seen a photograph of the 2 girls born 1886 & 1888 - they strike a remarkable resemblance to mother.

This could be a newspaper picture/photograph of the Egremont Football Team ?  Are there enough players or have I got half a photograph ?
Would the type of boots and shin-guards they are wearing be appropriate to 1898 - 1900 ish ?

Thank you, thats food for thought when I can master it.  If I could just ask would you have any ideas how I could get any further information on a football club.

Mentioned in the post of West Cumberland Times. June 25 1898 is the Egremont Football Club.  I was also sent an old picture(not to good quality) that grandfathers sister took with her to America in 1911 that shows 9 young men, 8 of whom are in long sleeved striped shirts, one in a solid coloured long sleeved shirt.  All have laced up boots and some sort of leg protection.  Also in the photo 2 ladies in large wide brimmed hats - 2 men in suits and a gentleman in more casual wear with a jaunty cap.

Probably asking the impossible again but who may know if there are any records of members or participants ?
