I am trying to find the 1861 census details for 31 Cochrane Terrace, Marylebone.

The reason is my GG Grandmother, Harriett Rayson, gave birth to my G Grandfather, Thomas Gurling Rayson, at that address in 1865.  I have a copy of his birth certificate, on which no father is listed.  I cannot trace a Harriet Rayson in any earlier census.

There is a birth for a Harriett Rayson in Marylebone in 1851, which may well be her but she would be 14 at the time of the birth.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Jane

Thanks for that.  Highly likely the date was transposed.

I'm off to Surrey Records Centre in about 2 weeks so it looks like I'll be scouring Egham parish records!!

I'm still struggling wth this one.

Using the Surrey burial index for St John the Baptist, Egham, I have been told there is another Elizabeth Fisher buried 6 Apr 1825, but that is not mentioned in the earlier postings on this thread.  Can anyone confirm that please and is there an age as well?

Any other info would be helpful.

Beppy

I know it's not what you asked for, but 1901 Census shows a possible as follows:

Edith E S Campbell aged 19 as a Governess and school worker born in Tulse Hill, Surrey.  Shown as single and residing at 7 Colyton Road. Civil Parish is Camberwell.

Census ref: RG13, Piece 508, Folio 27, Page 43.

Hampshire & IOW Lookup Requests / Re: william Fielder bn c1828

I now have a copy of the marriage certificate to Henrietta Forder on 1 Jul 1848 St Michaels Parish Church, Winchester. William is shown as 25 at the time of the marriage on the certificate, which would make his birth abt 1823.

Further confusion as William Fielder's father is shown as James Woods on the certificate, whose profession is shown as a groom.  I can find nothing on 1841, 1851, 1861 census for a likely James Woods, who by logic would have been born 1785 + or - 20 years.

Any ideas where I can go from here please?

I currently work in MOD Army kit supply.

The lanyard worn in the initial photograph is still worn by a number of regiments in the current (streamlined) british army with No 2 dress.  It is white in colour & plaited for about 3/4 of the length.  The lanyard was originally worn to carry items of kit, but is now purely decorative (apart from one or two regiments that wear whistles & the like on them; e.g. Rifles Band)

Off the top of my head the ones that wear the white lanyard are, Kings Royal Hussars, Scots Dragoon Guards, Queens Royal Lancers, Queens Dragoon Guards & Royal Dragoon Guards.

Royal Signals & Royal Engineers both wear a Navy Blue Lanyard but they are slightly different shades.
