I was wondering if someone could help me to touch up this lovely photo of my great aunt, and could anyone tell me roughly when they think this photo was taken

Hi Dee,

Thanks for your reply again, yes that was my grandfather Charles E New.

I'm surprised that Charles New is shown from 1900 onwards, should be maybe 1910 onwards.    Hope it is the same Charles New, so it looks like maybe he left 1918 to return to England.  I know he had to be back in England at retirement age, so that he could take up an Almshouse, that would be about right, as he would have been 64 by then.

Could you give me a website address for Sands Directory please Dee, .
and thak you for all your assistance

Regards

Yes Dee, we think this could possibly be them, but don't understand the children added.   His wife could have brought some other family members out of course, and knowing what happened in my Mother's migration, her cousin came, but he used my Mother's family name.  Its always good to get other people's opinions though.

I just cannot come up with anything for Charles or even both of them returning to England

Hi Dee,

Its just that we don't get rootschat posts replied to during the day so much here in Australia, I immediately thought, you could be just near us. lol

His actual date of birth was 28th July, 1854, his first wife Phoebe died 1909, Charles remarried 9.3.1910 when he was 56 years of age.    Emily Bellingham was commonly called Dinah, and she was 46 years of age when she married Charles.

No, no second name for Charles anyway, I just got his birth certificate, and that proves it.

Don't know much about Emily at all

I am having difficulty in tracing when my Great Grandfather Charles New, and his new second wife Emily (nee Bellingham) migrated to Australia from Newbury, England .
We know that he was in Sydney in 1912, whether he went to Melbourne first, and then travelled up to Sydney we do not know, but when the rest of the family arrived in Sydney from England, they found their father already in Sydney.

We also know that Charles returned to England to take up an Almshouse at Newbury, date unknown, but we think from around 1918 onwards, as he died in Newbury 1930.

So I am also looking for records of him arriving back into England.

Can anyone help me on this subject please
