Other Countries / Re: Possible marriage in India? How do I locate it?

Hi

Have you tried the various sections of overseas births on the GRO index.  I think it’s on Ancestry now. Then you could send for the certificate. Not sure how detailed but it would give the place and you could try and get the church certificate or similar if there was one

My grandparents marriage in Bombay Cathedral appears in the index, though we were fortunate enough to have the certificate. A bit earlier. After WW1

Good luck

Hi

Just a thought

There’s a link on here to an item from the Falkland Islands Museum

Have you tried emailing them and local history groups there directl.

A relative of mine captained a ship belonging to the Falkland Islands company  and my grandfather went with him.  I found some information and a photograph but the museum were really helpful and told me they had loads more information they could look out for me.

Best wishes

Hi
Sorry
Not that helpful
Just another thought.  You have info from military records. It seems very brief compared to some I have for a gggrandfather at this era.   Have you double checked there isn’t a fuller record anywhere?  I got mine from Kew but I think you have to us3 one of the agencies now. It did give  a confirmation of birth place down to a tiny village in zDorset and a better age and details of occupations and where he was discharged and why - Carlisle Castle

I think I actually found a birth for him a couple of days ago after many mysterious years. Not helped by using differing surnames with no reason I can see.!

Good hunting!  Best wishes

Hi
Have you searched the forum or looked on the Cumberland board for this family.

There are a large group researching them and many posts from them. I’ve done quite a bit of research too. I don’t have all my info at present to look to answer your question but I bet you will find loads of info on those boards and some will be pleased to hear from you

I will look for some links

More in a minute

Hi Both

Ironically I replied to this before when I was in Cumbria  We used to go regularly to the ice cream parlours and the Peace Family run by the Italians  However now I'm down in Lancashire where my family are from

However my other grandparents were in Birkenhead and on our visits we used to cross the Mersey on the ferry and go up to Hilton Street, now redeveloped but we used to go for ice cream cones to a tiny ice cream shop on a corner near there and I'm sure they were Italian.  It was near the park.

Do you think it was one of yours?

Intriguing, though there was a lot of contact between Mersey side and cumbria because much of the transport was by sea and people went in and out of both ports.

Canada / obituary site just closed

Hi Everyone from over in UK

This is a big ask on the off chance.

We're having a bit of a reunion this weekend and I've tried to do a bit more of the researh I did for my friend  I was so pleased to find an obituary and put it in my discoveries on Ancestry only to find out that two days later the site has closed down!

Sister Mary Reansbury from Brantford became the head of her order or mother house and dies about 2003 Daily Times Obituary Scarborough Ontario.  It was a full copy not just an index  I just didnt have a printer at the moment I found it.

There was a lovely long piece on an obituary site but it's gone  I'd love to findit for her.  Does anyone know another way of getting it even if I have to pay to download?

Thanks for reading

Best wishes

Emms :)
