Hi Bryan, your answer was perfectly reasonable and thanks for taking the time to peruse it  :)

I've looked at the chart and no-one seems to be in the sugar industry. There is a connection with the sugar industry but not in Germany. On our tree is a Paul Isenberg 1837-1903 who went to Hawaii and was in the sugar cane business. He married a granddaughter of Johann Conrad Winter, (Margerete Wobetha 'Beta' Glade 1846-1933). Paul was from Dransfeld, Germany.

:) I would never have thought that the first letter was a 'T' but it makes sense. Thank you Linda!

Most of the names have the trade or occupation above. I thought the end bit could be an abbreviation for 'meister'. Have tried in translators many different variations of the word but nothing comes up.

Hi all, can anyone help me decipher and translate to english this word, the one above the name Joh. Conrad Winter. I believe it to be his trade but just can't find out what it says exactly.

Thank you :)

Looking more and I think they are two different baptisms; one for Agness Newbie and one for Jenet Massiter :-\

Lancashire / Help understanding bapt record for Agness Newbie
« on: Wednesday 17 April 13 18:03 BST (UK)  »
Hi all  :)
Can someone help me decipher the following record;

Lancashire, England, Extracted Parish Records

Text:   Agnes Newbie dau: of Richard of Seatle and Jenett Massiter base dau: of Rowland 22 Jul 1622

Book:Chrissings 1617. (Baptism) Collection:   Lancashire: Cartmel - Parish Register, 1559-1661

Does it mean that Agnes Newbie is the daughter of Richard Newbie (of Settle) and his wife Jenett Massiter, who is the ilig. dau of Rowland Massiter?

I also found the following; "Edward Newbie sone of Rich: of Seatle 23 Oct 1618"..which could be Agness's brother & "Jenet Newbie of Seatle widow 16 May 1627", presumably Jenet's death.

On fam search they have  transcribed it as the bapt of Jennet Massiter, dau of Rowland Massiter but that doesn't seem right.

Hope someone can help :)

Hi Chris...great to hear from you again...you probably don't remember but we were in touch in jan 2010.  You were kind enough to send me a copy of Thomas Frost's seniors will, where, unfortunately for me, it states that Charles Frost, who I had believed to be my ancestor, had in fact died before 1821, (my Charles Frost died in 1850).

Anyway, nice to hear from you again! Best wishes, Gillian

P.S: still haven't found the parents of my Charles Frost!!!

Hi Jool :)

My Massiters/Mashiters were from Tatham, Melling and Hornby. James' father, George bought farm land in Bentham in 1788, which is why James and his siblings were born in Bentham.

However, I've only been able to trace the family back as far as the marriage of a Richard Massiter to Elizabeth Settles in 1719, Tatham and their subsequent children. This Richard could easily have been born elsewhere...and as you say, there may be a connection to the Heysham Massiters.

The main family names are Richard, Robert, George, John and Peggy, Ellin and Jenny....haha, but it seems that all the Massiters in Lancashire are named likewise ;D
