London & Middlesex Completed Lookup Requests / Hayes industrial school
« on: Friday 26 December 08 13:31 GMT (UK)  »
Hi everyone.
Hope you are all having a good Christmas. ;)
Can anyone tell me anything about Hayes industrial school for Jewish boys. The 1911 census has thrown up some interesting family facts and this school for delinquents is one of them.
Any help much appreciated.
Tina

The Common Room / Can't find the website
« on: Monday 24 November 08 16:25 GMT (UK)  »
A few days ago I came across a Jewish records website completely by accident.
So much so that I cannot find it again. :'(
It had marriage record entries that you could order the certificates for online.
Anyone have any idea?
The marriages I am interested in would be in Birmingham.
Many thanks
Tina

The Common Room / Help with reading a surname.
« on: Saturday 04 October 08 15:15 BST (UK)  »
Just received this birth certificate and I'm struggling to read the mothers maiden name.
If it's any help she was Prussian/Polish.
I think it looks like Alovis or something similar but I'm probably way off the mark.
Can someone decipher it for me please?
Thank You
Tina :)
P.S I hope it doesn't come out too large  ::)

The Common Room / British industries fair 1927and 47
« on: Monday 29 September 08 11:08 BST (UK)  »
Does anyone know where I can look for information on this?
I found something called Graces Guide which has been quite useful.
I assume it was a fairly large event so I though maybe photos or some sort of catalogue may still exist.
Many thanks

The Common Room / End of my subscription
« on: Friday 19 September 08 13:00 BST (UK)  »
Just a quick question while I'm on my lunch.
I've  cancelled my ancestry subscription and it ends on Sunday.
Can I still have my online tree without my subscription? Including all the census returns and other records I've paid for.
Thanks In advance.

The Common Room / One last attempt at help
« on: Wednesday 10 September 08 20:53 BST (UK)  »
After over 20 years I've decided to wind down my family research. I think I have gone as far back as I can go and as far out as I should. I have discovered things that I was both shocked and pleasantly surprised at. I still have a few stones left to turn over and a few certificates left to order but there is one mystery that has had me puzzled for years.
My great aunt Beatrice Westmacott born in Evesham Worcestershire in July 1897. I do have very good reason for wanting to find out what became of her and I was hoping that someone may be able to help.
She has caused me many sleepless nights and is my family brick wall . This is not the first time I have asked about her on RC but can anyone help.
Her parents were Moses and Kate. The last record I can find of her is on the passenger lists. She is recorded in Feb 1920 leaving New York coming home to England. She is listed as a waitress and her passage was paid by the British government. There is no record of her leaving England either on the passenger lists on findmypast or on the original records at Kew. After that she disappears. No marriage or death.  She left behind 2 children and I would like to know what became of her.
I have asked before but this is the last time I promise.
Can anyone help?
Thanks
Tina :'( :)

Technical Help / Ancestry problems again
« on: Saturday 09 August 08 19:00 BST (UK)  »
I am unable to view any images on Ancestry at the moment and it's been like it for a couple of days.
I have a new computer but I have had it 2 weeks and it has been OK up until now.
Is anyone else having problems or is it me?
Many thanks
Tina

The Common Room / another birth certificate query.
« on: Thursday 24 July 08 14:59 BST (UK)  »
I've just received a birth certificate. No surprises on it correct parents names and addresses etc.
In the box for the father it states his name and address then underneath it has the words ''by declaration'' and the date. I realise he was declaring he was the father but I have never come across this before. Is it usual?
Cheers
Tina
