Hi

Thank you all very much for your answers and suggestions. It is interesting to see how many ships sank on the same day.

Linking to the article in the Zurich newspaper. It speaks of a Hatsch from Unterägeri

It says that this Hatsch was originally from Poland and had lived in Unterägeri, Switzerland for two years. Before the time in Switzerland he had lived in the United States for some time and worked as a representant for Edison. I tried to find him in the passenger manifests or other records in the United States, but this is impossible without knowing his whole name. I also read some short biographies of Thomas Alva Edison, but there was no Hatsch mentionned. Hatsch was a chemist and musician.

Hampshire & Isle of Wight / Ship disaster near Bournemouth 3rd December 1909

Hi

I'm tracing a person named Hatsch (or Hatch / Hasz) who presumably died on a ship disaster near Bournemouth on the 3rd December 1909. Unfortunately I don't know his whole name or the name and type of the ship. I found this information in the Neue Zürcher Zeitung, Tuesday 7th December 1909 on https://www.e-newspaperarchives.ch/?l=en. I tried to find more information in some newspaper archives in Switzerland, Austria and the United States and also in some wreck databases but without success. So I'm wondering if there is some information in the newspapers around Bournemouth. I know that the Bournemouth Daily Echo is online on britishnewspaperarchive but I can't access it. So I would be grateful if someone can have a look if there was reported a ship disaster (with the names of the victims) near Bournemouth on the 3rd December 1909.

Thanks in advance.

Hi

Most of the information here you have already, but here is also a photo of Joseph Scheyer.
http://www.francaislibres.net/liste/fiche.php?index=95679

You can find more records about Ludwig Scheyer *1888 and Leo Scheyer *1901 on the "Arolsen Archives Online". There are two death records of the same Leo Scheyer. There is also a card with some medical details. The same for Ludwig Scheyer, he was wounded in WWI.

Hi

I can't help you if you don't answer my questions. I need to know what place of birth or place of origin and religion/confession of your ancestors ist mentionned on Canadian documents. If you have to research people who came from the Ukraine it is important to know if they considered themselfs as Austrians, Galicians, Germans, Ukrainians, Rutheniens in the Canadian Census. Because this gives a clue to which area of the Ukraine they came from and in which archives, websites, databases in/of the Ukraine you have to do some further research.

You mention that you did some research but you don't mention where you did do your research and which kinds of records you already found there. Did you search on "Library and Archives Canada" or on familysearch or on ancestry or on JewishGen or on the "Arolsen Archives Online"?

Jewish Gen has indexed metrical records of Poland, Galicia and Ukraine and they also have a huge database with different kinds of Holocaust records. The "Arolsen Archives Online" also have many records of Jews who were deported to concentration camps but they also have many records about Ukrainian (Polish, Russian) forced laborers and displaced persons. Some of the records of the "Arolsen Archives Online" you can also find on ancestry, but you will find more records on their own website.

Hi

Did you already find the Canadian Census entries of 1916, 1921, 1926, the passenger manifests and the border crossings or the personnel records of WWI? You should find all this records online on "Library and Archives Canada".

Canadian Census
https://www.bac-lac.gc.ca/eng/census/Pages/census.aspx

Immigration
https://www.bac-lac.gc.ca/eng/discover/immigration/Pages/introduction.aspx

Military Heritage
https://www.bac-lac.gc.ca/eng/discover/military-heritage/Pages/military-heritage.aspx

First World War
https://www.bac-lac.gc.ca/eng/discover/military-heritage/first-world-war/Pages/introduction.aspx

At least the passenger manifest but maybe also the census entries could contain information which is important to know to find traces of the family in Ukraine.

Hi

Birmingham Family History Websites
https://www.birmingham.gov.uk/info/50164/family_history_research/1573/family_history_research_useful_websites/6

Birmingham Local History Websites
https://www.birmingham.gov.uk/info/50164/family_history_research/1573/family_history_research_useful_websites/7

It seems that they don't have Trade directories or Electoral Registers which cover the time span I'm interested in (1940-2001).

Edit: I searched on findmypast and the person I'm researching shows up three times, but with my account I c'ant look at the details.

Hi

Quote
That works if you're used to searching by individial record set rather than by person specific details across records, and it still brings up the results in a completely different format.

I always search first by person specific details and if there are too much search results in the list I search this list by individual record set. Both search methods are still possible and working.
