I wonder if anyone could check the cemetery at Holme on Spalding Moor for the above. Her father, James MORTIMER who was schoolmaster at the time, died age 38 in 1857 and is buried in that graveyard. I have the partial inscription on his headstone and it doesn't include Clara so she can't have been buried alongside him. If it's any help, his inscription reads:

"In memory of James MORTIMER, late Master,.............................,
National School who departed this life on the 7th day of
........................... aged .................. This stone was erected
by Scolars ...................in the............ as a token of respect to
perpetuate his memory"

Thanks for any help.

Happy New Year

I thought I had this James all sewn up as being the child of Henry DEANE and Alicia BREARLEY. However, another researcher has made me doubt my findings. I can only find 2 similar births on FamilySearch. The one as stated but just with Henry and no mother, bap.Birstall 24 Feb 1733 C108112. The other is bap. Kildwick 6 Jan 1734 to Thomas DEAN and Alithia P010011.

IGI has two other children bap.to Henry - Hannah bap.28 Apr 1731 and John bap.9 Jan 1739.

The person who has sown the seed of doubt has the following children for Henry and Alicia.
Thomas, Henry, Alice, Elizabeth and Ann.
And married 20 July 1722

I can find no marriage for Thomas DEAN and Alithia on IGI. And I can only find one Yorkshire marriage for a Henry DEANE

James and his wife Hannah PYRAH are my 5 x gt.g.parents so if anyone could help with this I would be very grateful.

Armed Forces / 46th Regiment of Foot 1807
« on: Saturday 05 January 13 03:26 GMT (UK)  »
;D Happy New Year to all,

Can someone please help me find out where my ancestor died? To narrow down the time of death I know the following.

When his twin sons, John and James, were baptised on 10 January 1808 at St.Chad's, Rochdale, it was stated that he (Alexander Oldham) was deceased and had been a soldier in the 46th Regiment.

One has to assume that he was alive and at home at their conception sometime around March 1807.

I have found that the Infantry 46th Regiment were active in the Napoleonic Wars, in particular the Peninsular War. In August 1808 Britain landed an expeditionary force under the command of Lt.-Gen. Sir Arthur Wellesley at the mouth of the Mondego river in Portugal. Moving south towards Lisbon, Wellesley defeated Delaborde at Roliça on 17th August.

However, as Alexander was dead by 10 January 1808 this could not have been 'his' conflict.

Is there any way to find this information, please?

Buckinghamshire Lookup Requests / Ellen BEDDEN Turweston 1873
« on: Monday 27 August 12 07:08 BST (UK)  »
I have been posting on this subject on the Northants Board but it was suggested that I also post here and link to the other postings but I don't know how to do that. I think I found out: Nope, the instructions in the FAQ don't work. Still brings up the blocking notice for Copyright.Neither can I use the Attach link. What am I doing wrong please?

I would like to find out if anyone has PR for Turweston. Trying to find the birth of Ellen BEDDEN who (the family has it) was born 24 Feb 1873 Turweston, Northants.

The rest of the story is on the Northants pages quite close to today's date 27 Aug.

Thanks for help

Hi,

Further to my request on Ellen BEDDEN birth I am now wondering if it is possible to find out who the parents were that went with the following birth.

Mar 1874
BEDDING   Female    Brackley   3b/4

Just wondering if this could be my Ellen who was registered by someone other than the father or mother so didn't know the name should be BEDDEN.

Thanks for any help

Northamptonshire Lookup Requests / Birth pls Ellen BEDDEN Turweston 1873
« on: Saturday 25 August 12 06:29 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I've been asked by a neighbour to find out more about her gt.grandmother. She has the birthdate of 24 Feb 1873 Turweston, Northampton from an old book containing lots of old family records.

Ellen's parents were William and Hannah BEDDEN (varying to Bedding on some of the census records)

Ellen was late marrying having come out to Australia (?alone) but returned to England quite soon. She married a man she met on her return journey, Christmas John WYER b.8 Aug 1868 Watton, Norfolk, on 5th July 1904. She states her age as 30 on the cert, and her father's name (and witness) as William Bedden. Her name was entered as BEDDEN but there is a note dated 16 March 1905 to the effect that "In entry No 142 Col.2 for Bedden read Bedding". The other witness was her sister Clara who also signed Bedding although she had been registered as Bedden (Mar 1880 Brackley 3b/2)

Search as I might I can find no trace of the registration of Ellen. If anyone could please help me with this I would be very grateful.

Breconshire Lookup Requests / Marriage look-up pls
« on: Thursday 26 July 12 05:52 BST (UK)  »
I have Howell POWELL b.1760 d.13 Feb 1838 age 78 (which gives birth year of 1760) and his wife Elinor d.3 Jan 1828 age 60 making birth year 1768. This information taken from the gravestone at Bethesda Chapel, Lower Chapel.

There are 8 children to this marriage I believe but I only have dates for 2 of them and I don't know if there would be an earlier birth than Andrew who was born 1795 Merthyr Cynog. The other that I know the DOB for is Elinor in 1799.

The rest of them are:

William; Morgan; Howell; Catherine; John; and, Thomas.

Can anyone help me please with a marriage for Howell and Elinor possibly around 1790 +/- 3 years?

Thank you,
OzzieJoan

My husband's 3 x gt.grandparents were:

Charles HOWSE (HOWES) b.1810 Oxford (possibly St.Peter le Bailey)

Jane FURBY b.1812 Oxford

If anyone could please find the parents of Charles in particular I would be very grateful. Their first child's birth year seems to be 1835 if that helps.

Thanks,
