Australia / How to tell where a person is buried in Qld
« on: Saturday 02 December 17 05:10 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,
I have the registration number for a death in Queensland, C3072 James EVANS. Is there any way to find out the cemetery this refers to, please? It's such a common name that it would be beyond me to buy all the certificates to pick him out.

Thanks,
OzzieJoan

Australia / NSW and Tasmania births 1961 - 1975
« on: Friday 01 September 17 07:52 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
I have the names of the parents, John Lyndon JONES (known as Lyn) and Helen Frances FAHY(v), and would like to find out if they had any children. Both of these parents have died. Is there any way that I could locate any possible children, please?
They married in 1961 in Burwood.
Thanks for any suggestions,
OzzieJoan

Looking on behalf of another. She has no trace of the above after his entry in the 1881 Census. The parents, James Edward and Caroline Mary SNELL moved to USA with their daughters in 1896. How can I find out if their son, Leonard, was also with them, please?

Thanks,
Joan

I have been unable to find a marriage and hope for a good result. Thomas Fairbank b.1788 d.1831 married (presumably) Rachel who was born ca.1797 d.1846 age 49. They had just one child, Sarah b.Knaresborough 1825 - she married Richard Abbey in 1849.

In 1841 Rachel and Sarah are living at Bell Mont Farm, Knaresborough. There is also a 3 year old Thomas Johnson with them.

Places already checked include FindMyPast, FreeReg, and FamilySearch. Thomas was an attorney as were his father and brothers so it is unlikely that he would not have married Rachel. At the time of his death he lived at Bond End.

Any help would be appreciated, please.

I am trying to find the burial places of 2 of my ancestors without any success to date. Would someone please be able to help me.

The couple I am after are:
Stevenson, Herbert Brooks, dental surgeon, died 26 Oct 1940 in Southport age 81

Stevenson, Clara Louise Thornton, wife of Herbert, died early June in 1943 also in Southport age 76. They lived at 9 Balfour Road at the time of their deaths.

I have contacted Southport Crematorium who have been unable to find burials. Is there any chance anyone would be able to look at the archived Southport Visiter for 1940 to see if there is an obituary for Herbert, please? Or a funeral notice? Either might tell me where they were buried. The online archives only to back to 2007. I also asked Southport Library who couldn't find them either at Duke Street or Liverpool Road cemeteries.

It's possible that during the war there was a limit on the number of obituaries published and could be why they are not turning up

Thanks,
Joan

Devon / Thos.MORTIMER Johanna BEST 1500's Witheridge?
« on: Wednesday 26 August 15 05:39 BST (UK)  »
Looking for confirmation, please.

There are at least 33 Family Trees on Ancestry with the above couple. They are my 12 x gt.g.p's and I have them marrying in Halifax in February 1545 and going on to have at least 8 children all born in Yorkshire. I have never been able to find either birth or death for them.

Almost all of the Trees on Ancestry have the couple born Witheridge 1515 and 1521 respectively. Most include their parents (which I didn't write down) as well. Some of them have Thos. dying in Witheridge and Johanna in London.

To me this all seems a bit far fetched and I would like to hear what others might think.

There is a website for Witheridge but it won't let my computer do any kind of searching or enter the Forum. Any help would be appreciated.

« on: Sunday 29 March 15 06:27 BST (UK)  »
Hi, I am wondering if this ancestor was back in gaol again at the time of the 1861 census. Would anyone please be able to tell me how to find out? I don't have paid access to old newspapers.

Henry DELL born Oxford November 1821
Married in Sept quarter 1847 to Mary Ann DRURY
Their first child, Henry, born February 1848
Henry is sent to prison :-
Name:    Henry Dell
Age:    27
Estimated Birth Year:    abt 1821
Date of Trial:    26 Jun 1848
Trial Year:    1848
Location of Trial:    Oxfordshire, England
Sentence:    Imprisonment
He got 3 months for  stealing
1851 he and his wife are living in Union Street, St.Ebbes with young Henry and 2 wk old Mary Ann
June quarter 1856 his wife, Mary Ann DELL (Drury), dies in Oxford
1861 his 2 children are living with his parents at 50 Friars Street, St. Ebbes
1871 Henry has now joined his 2 children at his parents home still at Friars Street
I think he dies in 1891 but I don't have him in any later censuses.

Any help would be appreciated.
