hi everyone it seems i have been on wild goose chase for 3 years, after a distant cousin said that my ggrandfather was a connaught ranger, however it now has become apparent that he was with 1st northumberland 5th regiment, in 1868 birr, then on to india untill 1881 does anyone else have relatives that was there the same time, thanks

hi iv been looking for my ggrandfather thomas williams born 1838 oswestry, i now know he was with 1st battallion 5th Reg Northumberland Fusiliers in 1861 they were in St Botolphs Colchester, 1865 Birr, and then India for 13 years hope this helps somebody as it has taken me 3 years but it shows dont give up. i know would like to know if anybody out there would know of a passenger list for the regiment on the journey to india approx 1868, in fact anything related to this period with this regiment, many thanks

thanks ken, my ggrandfather came home early 1880 due to exhaustion after spending 13 years in india,any idea if army would haved housed him when he returned or would he have had to come home and be left to his own resourses, by 1881 he was working on railway in oswestry, shropshire, if anyone else had family in india with 1st battalion 5th regiment during this time i would love to hear from them, thanks

hello ive been looking for my ggrandfather thomas williams born 1838 oswestry, i was told that he was in connaught rangers but now have actually think  he was  ist battalion 5th fusiliers northumberland, and i found him on 1861 census at st botolphs colchester, so after reading your posts im convinced ive found correct regiment, my ggrandfather was in india for 13 years coming home in 1880 i now need to find muster rolls but if anyone has any advise id be thankfull,good luck with your research.

hello everyone im still searching for my ggrandmother mary kennedy from parsonstown birr born 1851, i cannot trace her anywhere so im off on a different route now, please can anyone tell me if graveyard street parsonstown is still there or has anyone got links with it.the reason im asking is because i have found sn enrty in grifffiths valuation which might be her i wondered was it a poor area in 1851 what kind of people lived there, thanks
