Hi

Thanks for that sort of answers a few questions, Grandfather was always a supporter of Fr Hundson Homes, and often talked about Fr Haigh but that was in connection to the Abbey our parish church.......I just wonder if he was not put there for a short time for some reason which we will never know perhaps when his brother died or was sick.  Thanks for your assistance could not find anything here and had totally forgotten about Fr Hudson Homes, we used to sell "flags" as kids to raise funds if I remember they were blue and stuck on a pin.........heck that goes bakc to the 40/50's that shows my age.

does anyone know what this was, the Census for 1901 shows my Grandfather aged 8 being there.  He was not an orphan I just wondered if anyone knows what this place was.  They are all boys from 12 - 3 yo was it perhaps a seminary school as my family were strong RC's have tried google etc but nothing I can come up with.  Any suggestions would be welcome - it is a mystery to me, I can only think that one of his brothers died of meningitus in 1900 perhaps he was sent there to get him out of the way but the girls all stayed home. Hmmm

Thanks in advance

As a young person doing Duke of Edinburgh Award, I used to help out at the Taylor Memorial Home (as it was called) in Grange Rd Erdington, it was alovely place. It was also used for women who had difficult births to recuperate. We used to take the Brownies and Guides there to sign carols at Christmas etc. Forgot all about that  place now far away in NZ

St Michaels Boldmere is another church if he was Anglican my Grandparents are buried there Nana died in 1979 so it was in use then, if my memory serves me correctly and I now live in NZ, this would not come under Birmingham but Warwick for registration.

I believe there is a Museum attached to the Kynochs Works (part of IMI/ICI) in Witton (which was classed as Aston), my Dad worked there and I saw it as a child, you could try and ask them if they stillhave it and personnel records.

This may not help but I am doing a search on "Wareing" as well and hit a brick wall, till I found out that there seems to be several spellings with "e" without "e" "o" for "a" etc and it is even spelt "Whoring" so perhaps you have to look at the spelling as well - I have 17 Bernards in my list and its a perfect headache - some I know went to Canada but which ones...

Thank you for that James, will try and see if they do archive. My cousins were in practice in Birmingham - one of their practices is still going but cant seem to get any details from them possibly as they have grown to be a big company and my cousin died some years ago.  Will keep on trying though. Thanks for all your help.

Thanks for your reply - I have two one was a barrister and one was a solicitor both in Birmingham, they would have qualified in the 1930's will try and contact the various people and see what I can get - have not had much luck with them in the past. Thought that perhaps there was something like a newsletter or journal that may be archived stating who was admitted or qualified in that time frame - as with people in the Forces. Thanks for your help will continue with my search.
