Kent Lookup Requests / Re: St Andrews, Canterbury 1643 marriage lookup please
« on: Saturday 21 February 09 17:49 GMT (UK)  »
Hello Lis

Thanks for checking Westbere for me. Yes there are quite a lot of Sturges families in that area.

I think i checked Reculver for Richard Sturges baptism. Not sure if i checked c1619 though. It was such a hectic day ! I only found his marriage to Elizabeth Gore on the internet when i came home that evening.

If he is was not baptised at Reculver it could indeed be a long hunt.

Thanks for your offer of doing a quick lookup at Canterbury. Very kind of you.  :)

Hello Lis

Excellent  :)

Thanks for doing that lookup for me. That is very kind of you. Yes i still wanted the info.

The preview on google books gives an 'about' age for Richard and Elizabeth. I see that the ages are given exactly in your lookup.  Was this from the parish register ?

Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / Re: Is this the same man ?
« on: Wednesday 18 February 09 00:59 GMT (UK)  »
Thanks to all for your opinions on these photos.

Yes it is a pity that the large moustache covers so much.

I should have mentioned that my G Grandad was 5ft 5in tall. The man in photo 2 looks like he is about 5ft 5in tall.

Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / Is this the same man ?

Hello

I would like opinions on whether the man in the 2nd photo is the same man in the 1st photo.

The 1st photo is of my Great Grandad. I notice he has a promiment line/dimple on his chin. Does the man in the 2nd photo have this line/dimple on his chin ?

My Great Grandad would be 59 in the 2nd photo at his sons wedding if it is him. Does he look 59 ?

Armed Forces / Re: Which Battallion in the Rifle Brigade + S.W.B

Thanks for doing that search Phil   :)

Yes it does appear from those S/109** numbers that there was a lot of movement between Battallions.

I also tried myself to match his Army dates with that website you have linked without sucsess.

My G Grandfather was from South London so that fits with the list numbers between S/10948 and S/10967.

Yes hopefully Andy will find it.

World War One / Re: The Black Watch

Hello

Yes it is possible referring to your 1st question.

3 of my GG Uncles (all brothers) were born and bred in South London with no Scottish ancestral roots and all joined the Black Watch.

A shame that other Battallions will be on the same SWB Roll.

Hope you you will be able to post results to me next week. Thanks.

I photocopied his SWB Roll page at Kew.
