Census Lookup and Resource Requests / 1891 & 1901 census look-up Edith Dawson
« on: Wednesday 10 January 07 10:32 GMT (UK)  »
Hello All

This should be posted on a Yorkshire board but as there are 3 and I don't know the area, I don't know which one to post on.

Edith Reckless Dawson was born Sept 1/4 1879 Eccleshall B. I don't have her birth cert so I can't confirm her parents but....

I think I have found her on the 1881 census with Sampson and Ann Dawson (based on the marriage of Sampson Dawson to Ann Woodcock June 1/4 1872 Sheffield) with Sarah, Amelia and Ada at Attercliffe Cum Darnall, York. This shows her place of birth as Heeley, does this tie up with the registration district of Eccleshall B?

If so, I would be grateful if someone could find the same family on the 1891 and 1901 census.

Obviously I need to send for her birth cert to prove her parents names as this could all be completely wrong.

Thanks in advance

Surrey Completed Look up Requests / COMPLETED 1841 census images
« on: Monday 08 January 07 19:44 GMT (UK)  »
Hello All

Until now I have been using the Ancestry site at my local library to view the 1841 Surrey census for my Longhurst ancestors.

However the quality of some pages is extremely poor, verging on the illegible. How they've been transcribed, one can only guess.

So,

1) in your opinion, is image quality better on the cd/dvd sets that can be purchased from the likes of S&N, and

2) should I consider buying the Surrey set or make do with what I've got so far.

Looking forward to some replies.

Surrey Completed Look up Requests / Isaac & Louisa Longhurst
« on: Wednesday 03 January 07 19:06 GMT (UK)  »
Isaac 35, Louisa 25 and their 4 children Isaac, Harriot, Emily and Ellen(or) 'appear' in the 1841 census at Abinger. All were born in the county.

The 4 children are baptised between 1833 and 1839 at Ockley.

However, I cannot find a baptism for Isaac senior, so I don't know who his parents were, nor a marriage to Louisa so I can find out her maiden name.

I would be grateful if someone could check for a marriage presumably around 1832.

I don't have access to the 1851 census until I go to the library at the weekend, but having had a quick look at the index, 'Iseck' is born around 1802 and Louisa 1812. As I can't see details I have no more clues as to their places of birth and if there are anymore children.

Hoping someone can throw some light on this family.

Thanks in advance.

Surrey Completed Look up Requests / COMPLETED A huge favour to ask, RAK in otherwords
« on: Tuesday 05 December 06 09:48 GMT (UK)  »
Hello all

On Saturday I went to the library to use their version of Ancestry. I used the 'share image' facility to send some census documents home. The last time I did this I was able to open the files at home and save them to my computer. Now I can't open them. According to Ancestry this is because I don't have a subscription at home.

So I'm asking a huge favour here.

Would someone who has an Ancestry subscription be willing to open these images for me, save the actual census files as jpg's and then email them back to me?

Please let me know.

Huge thanks in advance

Surrey Completed Look up Requests / Marriage look-up please Longhurst/Bouton
« on: Sunday 19 November 06 12:43 GMT (UK)  »
Hello all

Mary Bouton (Boughton) had an illegitimate child, Aaron, baptised at Ewhurst 5 Jan 1745, the 'reputed father being John Longhurst'.

Their next child Moses was baptised 1 Nov 1747 at Ewhurst, but there are no comments in the PR other than he was the son of John and Mary, implying a marriage had taken place in between times. All the other illegitimate children in the PR have comments by their baptism entries, some worse than others. John and Mary went on to have another 5 children baptised at Ewhurst.

So far though, I can't find a marriage for them, possibly between 1745 and 1747, and am hoping someone can find it on the Surrey Index. I know this is the Surrey board, but could someone check the Sussex Index too.

Thanks in advance.
