Lancashire / Thomas Hampson

Hi all,
I am looking for my Hampson relatives. Mary Jane was born circa 1817 in Manchester. She married Thomas Walter Pike in 1838. On their marriage certificate it gives Mary's father as a Thomas Hampson a manufacturer. I found him in Piggott's directory of Manchester for 1841 he was nankeen and fustian maker. This makes sense as Thomas Walters father was a draper no doubt that is how he met Mary Jane I would guess.
The actual entry in Piggott's reads
Hampson Thomas, nankeen, fustian, &c, manufacturer, Radcliffe
Does anyone know if the italics for Radcliffe would mean this is his place of origin?
Also I cant find him on the 1841 Census. I guess since Mary Jane must have been born circa 1817 he must have been born circa 1795 or there abouts. Any help would be appreciated.
Best Regards
Alan
