The Common Room / Re: Workhouses
« on: Sunday 08 January 17 16:59 GMT (UK)  »
Francis PARKER born 1850 in Margate KENT. There is only one Francis PARKER born between 1850 and 1853 in Margate KENT. I believe he is listed on the 1911 census as being in the workhouse Strand registration area. He is listed as single.
Sarah PARKER born 1851 in Margate KENT. I believe she is the one listed on the 1911 census as being in the workhouse in Bethnal Green although is says unknown for her place of birth. She is listed as married.

Would it be possible for a husband & wife to be in two different workhouses at the same time?

Yes, I have found the information that I wanted and he was not in London in 1851. Please consider this request complete.

Cougar, Thankyou so much for your help. This has put together all the other evidence that I have but could not confirm. You are indeed an asset to this website.

Thankyou again

Cougar, John was born according to later census records somewhere in SUFFOLK. His children were born in London (Joseph was born 1841 Holborn, the other two I have not traced their births yet). Mary Ann was I think born in Southampton/Hampshire. So this one you have found does not seem to be the right one yet.

Cougar, John should be about 35, Mary Ann ?, William 13, Mary (not sure that she was still alive) 11 and Joseph 10. John and Mary Ann married in Feb 1851 in Southampton. They are not in Hampshire on census night 1851. It states on the certificate that John was living in Kensington (there is no Kensington in Southampton) at this time and as he previously lived in Holborn, London until at least 1846 this would make sense. You were very helpful finding him in 1841 for me. Here;s hoping you can come up with him this time. He (John) has been a real pain in the neck moving round so much.

Thanks

London & Middlesex Completed Lookup Requests / 1851 CENSUS/KENSINGTON PLEASE
« on: Wednesday 06 July 05 21:34 BST (UK)  »
Has Kensington been indexed yet? I am looking for John & Mary Ann BANKS in the Kensington area in 1851. I am hoping to find them with John's children William,Mary & Joseph.  I do not have an address to go by only that he was from Kensington when he remarried in Feb 1851. If someone could help I would be very grateful. This information could get me over a very high brick wall.  Thanks

Sandra
