The Common Room / marriage record
« on: Sunday 23 March 14 20:52 GMT (UK)  »
Hi
Not sure if i am in the correct place for this confusing query!
I have Langford Manderson married Sarah Chalker(Chauker) at sea 25nov1858 aboard the Prince Albert  (LDS) which sailed between Galway Ireland-StJohn's Newfoundland and New York.Langford is on the 1850 us census in Philadelphia then on the 1860 census with Sarah and son Franklin ,Sarah is listed as born in Newfoundland which i believe was not part of Canada at that time. The question is where would this marriage be registered? I am hoping there would be more info for Sarah on the marriage cert if there is one i.e is the birth info correct? Its strange that Langford would be in Philadelphia in 1850 then maybe go back to Newfoundland for Sarah or was she maybe born in Ireland and he returned to Ireland for her.Why would they have a maritime marriage?Did she run away from home?I have been unable to find any birth for Sarah in Ireland or Newfoundland
thanks for any help in clearing up this confusion

Antrim / searching for john mckay
« on: Tuesday 04 February 14 23:31 GMT (UK)  »
Hi
Havent posted for some time hope i have this correct!
I have Mary Jane Walker daugh. of James Ferris Walker and Deborah Morrison,Mary b21mar1865 Belfast d14jan1923 Shankill,Belfast age 57.She married John Mckay 07dec1895 Trinity Ballymoney 2nd Presb, at the time of death she lived at 67 Pernan St and the grave owner was John Mckay her husband i assume. On the marriage record he is listed as a labourer,Presb.and homeland/street as Culduff.Cant seem to make a good connection using the census,in 1901 there is a John and Mary at #24 Culdoo St Enagh and a John and Jane at 41.2 Charlotte ages in each instance are not quite correct assuming he was born about the same time as her.In 1911 there is a John and Mary Jane at 8 Culdoo st with 6 children but again the ages dont quite fit.UHF have a couple of deaths in 1901 and 04 but both are too old to match him, there is a birth on UHF in 1865 for a John in Larne father John and mother Margaret Dunlop and one in 1867 in Shankill father John a Gardener mother Eliz. Mitchell but again no concrete connection to John who married Mary Jane.Iam hoping for any help or ideas on how to proceed. Thanks

Hi
I have Langford Manderson B abt1827/30 Ireland ? and Sarah Chalker b abt 1836 Newfoundland (according to 1860 us census) I have been unable to find this birth in any of the Parish records.I had thought that they would have been married in Newfoundland but recently found on Family Search that they married at sea aboard the "Prince Albert"25nov1858.There first child Franklin(Frank) was born 10sep1859 Philladephia,is there somewhere i can find the  ports of departure and arrival for this ship. There is no record on Ellis Island or Grosse Ille,is it possible that they would have sailed from somewhere in Newfoundland.Earlier info from Rootschat that Langford came to the USA in1852.Hope i'am posting on the correct forum!
thanks for any help

Antrim / kilpatrick/walls family
« on: Tuesday 13 March 12 04:13 GMT (UK)  »
Hi
I have Agnes Kilpatrick b 25 dec 1875 Lochwinnoch Scotland - d 15 jun 1958 Beith Scotland age 82. Agnes married John Walls 12 dec 1898 Kilbirnie Scotland. John was b 06 jul 1874 and - d 22 jun 1937 Beith. On John's birth record from UHF it states his father was Alexander and mother Ellen Walker this confirmed on there marriage record, it also gives an address as Workhouse, Belfast Larne Antrim. Does this mean that his parents were in a workhouse when he was born? the district reads St Mac Nissi's. Is there anywhere i can find out which workhouse that would be if in fact they were living there? the 1901 and 1911 census shows them living on High St no other relatives. Thanks for any help
