Leicestershire / Re: Alfred Sykes (sikes)
« on: Saturday 05 July 14 23:14 BST (UK)  »
I have Alfred Sykes born c1887 on my family tree, he is my 5th cousin 3 times removed so is a very distant relation. I do not have his baptism but his parents were John Sykes (bap 4 Mar 1849) in Whitwick and Annie (born Codnor, Derbyshire), Alfred's siblings were Frederick, Ann, John and William, they were born in Codnor while Alfred was born in Thringstone. Alfred also had 2 half siblings as his father married again.
John Sykes born 1849 was the s/o John Gains Sykes (1810 Loughborough) and Mary Bradley and this John was the s/o Nicholas Sikes and Sarah Gains of Loughborough. Nicholas married 2 Sarah's in Loughborough, he and his 3rd wife Mary then moved to Thringstone. Nicholas was a butcher.
Hope this helps,
Judy

Staffordshire / Re: James Rochell
« on: Thursday 16 January 14 19:03 GMT (UK)  »
I think it's very possible that your Rochells link up to Gnosall in some way. Church Eaton has already been mentioned, the William who had children born in Church Eaton was born in 1730 in Gnosall and was the son of Christopher Rochell and Ann Holmes. Christopher and Ann had children Christopher (1726), William (1730, lived in Church Eaton) , Thomas (1733)  and John (1735). Your James had sons with the same Christian names as this family and Gnosall is very close to Bradley.

Hi ciderdrinker,
I was just looking at the Hagley marriage for Thomas Gill to Ann Dugard and realised we both made a mistake  - the marriage is 1744 not 1644.
I hope you don't mind if I ask you another question, do you know how Azarius (c1683) and Paul Gill (c1690) connect to William Gill if at all? Their baptisms aren't on the IGI yet people name them (as well as Roger) as sons of William. Is Roger Gill (who married Ann Gill) possibly the brother of Azarias born c1683?

Hi ciderdrinker,
Thank you for your information. The marriage at Hagley in 1644 looks very interesting as the age of Ann looks probable as the youngest son (that I know of) Daniel was born 1647. I've downloaded the Hagley PR's from the BMSGH and there are no entries for 1644 and some other years. I looked at the marriage entry on the IGI (thanks for pointing out where you found it) and it's a submitted entry, I'm guessing the information may have come from a marriage bond. I will email Worcester Record Office later and ask them if it's there. If they are unforthcoming I will go to WRO mid February as I can't go before.
Do you think Daniel's sister/ Thomas & Ann's daughter Ann who was buried in 1644 is a different Ann to the one born in 1633? I ask this because the burial names her as Thomas and Ann's daughter and they didn't marry until 1644.

Hi,
I've read the posts about Roger Gill with great interest.I'm a descendent of Daniel Gill born 1647 in Kingswinford, Daniel's parents are listed on the PR's as Thomas and Ann but this is where I get very confused. I believe Thomas is either the s/o Matthew Gill (Thomas baptised 1606 Old Swinford) or Roger (Thomas baptised 1607 Old Swinford) but I'm having problems sorting this out. I can see that both Matthew and Roger's families moved from Old Swinford to Kingswinford. There are two Thomas's having children baptised in Kingswinford - Thomas & Jone then Thomas & Ann but I'm not sure sure if it's one Thomas marrying twice or if it's the 2 Thomas's of Matthew and Roger.Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Lancashire / Re: Help needed on Ellen Coupe/ Cope possibly born Balderstone
« on: Saturday 28 September 13 13:23 BST (UK)  »
Thanks for looking Radcliff, it's much appreciated. Ellen herself ended up in Walsall, Staffs so I'm wondering if Jane did too though I can't find her on the censuses. I also can't find the father Richard after 1841, his death doesn't appear on the Lancashire OPC. There were a couple of Richard Coupes around on the 1851, were both weavers (correct occupation) but neither were from or living in Balderstone.

Lancashire / Help needed on Ellen Coupe/ Cope possibly born Balderstone
« on: Tuesday 17 September 13 16:01 BST (UK)  »
My husband's GG Grandmother is Ellen COPE/COUPE possibly born in Balderstone circa 1815, she is proving very hard to track down. She is named as the mother of Henry WILCOX of Walsall, Staffordshire on his birth certficate in 1851 - the spelling of her surname being Copo, in 1858 it was Cope on her son James birth certificate. Both birth certificates imply she was married to their father James WILCOX however I just cannot find a marriage for the couple. On the 1851 census she was in Walsall as Ellen COPE, born Balderston, Lancashire and was housekeeper to James WILCOX. In 1861 she was Ellen WILCOX born Brodston, Lincolnshire and in 1871 she said she was born in Walsall. She died in 1874.
I have found a possible baptism that fits nicely in Balderstone - Ellen Coupe bap 1815 d/o Richard and Jane COUPE (nee Anderton)but am not 100% sure that this is correct as I don't definitely know the name of Ellen's father. The mother Jane died in Balderstone in 1831 and was buried in Samlesbury as was daughter Elizabeth/ Betty who was buried in Samlesbury in 1818. Richard & Jane's son George (born 1819) stayed in Balderstone and married Mary Sowerbutts BUT I don't know what happened to Richard (born c1795) and his daughter Jane (born 1824 Balderstone), they are together in Mellor Brow in 1841 but after that they disappear into thin air.
Any help with this family will be greatly appreciated as I'm just going nowhere with them.

Staffordshire / Re: William Cope and wife Mary
« on: Thursday 29 August 13 00:33 BST (UK)  »
I've only just come across this post so sorry for not replying sooner. I think I have the answers you need. William Cope was born in 1789 in Shareshill, he was married to Ann Hood and had 9 children some of which are with him and Mary (second wife??) on the 1841. I don't seem to have a burial for William's wife Ann so am wondering if she's "Mary" on the 1841? William doesn't seem to have had any children after Sarah in 1830.

William born 1789 is my 3x G Uncle and I have further information on his children plus his mother and father. I'm a descendent of his brother Thomas.

Derbyshire / Re: Timothy Pegg and family?
« on: Thursday 03 May 12 15:13 BST (UK)  »
I've put together what you've given me (Derbysderek, davidrigg3 and kovel - thank you!) added to what I've found from the earliest Timothy:

Timothy Pegg mar Eliza Turner in Brailsford on 21 Jan 1686 (Boyds marriages)

Timothy Pegg mar Elizabeth Jowet on 28 Apr 1718 in Etwall, they had daughters Sarah 1718 and Maria in 1728, both baptised in Etwall (IGI).

Timothy Pegg born 4 Aug 1768, Melbourne (images of records on NC bmd site) no burial? s/o John & Elizabeth

Timothy Pegg born 13 Mar 1770- details as the previous Timothy

Timothy Pegg, Loughborough, framesmith took an apprentice 1782 (Ancestry image)

Timothy Pegg mar Sarah Hinson at Kegworth on 13 Oct 1800 (IGI)

Timothy Pegg age 10 died 1805, buried in Melbourne (NC image on NC bmd website)

William Timothy Pegg s/o Timothy & Frances born in Northampton (NC image on NC bmd site)

Timothy Pegg, Framesmith, Melbourne 1828 (directory).

My biggest question from the information is I'm still wondering if there's 2 Timothy Pegg's. There's the one who's a framesmith in Loughborough in 1782 and the one born Melbourne in 1770. I can't imagine the 1770 one taking on an apprentice when he was 12. The Loughborough on fits nicely with with my Ann Pegg but I still don't know where he came from or where he went.

There is a baptism in Barwell of an Ann Pegg in 1764 which fits agewise with my Ann but the parents are William & Ann and I can't see the Timothy Pegg link.
