Does anyone know what's happened to the Kirkheaton OPC site?  When did it go offline?

It was a superb resource.

Many thanks.

« on: Wednesday 29 April 09 20:28 BST (UK)  »
Hi all,

Does anyone have Silkstone PR's and would be willing to look-up a marriage for me please?

My gggrandparents, George Womersley Arimitage, and Julia Waring, were married on 24th Dec 1829 at Silkstone Church.

I would like to know who the witnesses were if possible.

Thanks.

Hi everyone,

I've met someone on another site looking for a Holmfirth christening circa 1837, and wondered if anyone here has access to them, as if so, I will suggest the person asks for a look-up here.

Thanks.

Yorkshire (West Riding) / Armitage/Beardow Huddersfield
« on: Tuesday 07 April 09 11:39 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I'm struggling with this line.  All born Huddersfield.

Jonathan Womersley Armitage b.1836 (I have all his details) and Elizabeth Beardow b. 1839 (have her details up to 1861) the couple married in Huddersfield 1860, they had a son James Henry Armitage born 1861 Hudd's, the family together on 1861 census.  1871 census - no Elizabeth, Jonathan and James Henry are living with Jonathan's father, George Womersley Armitage, ciitation : Class: RG10; Piece: 4370; Folio: 24; Page: 41;
After this census I lose track of James Henry, I haven't found a probable death for him.  Sometime between 1871 and 1873, Jonathan set up home together with Mary Hargreaves b. 1840 in Leeds.  Jonathan and Mary had five children between 1873 - 1874, all the children were surnamed Hargreaves and had Armitage as a middle name.  Jonathan and Mary eventually married in 1898.

So, what happened to Elizabeth and James Henry?  I'm assuming Jonathan was unable to marry Mary until 1898 (when presumably Elizabeth died).

Any help or ideas will be much appreciated.  Thanks for your time.

Hi,

I'm considering purchasing credits from this site and wondered if someone here could tell me what info is included in the records, ie for a baptism would there be an address, is father's occupation recorded etc?  Also, what info would I obtain from a marriage, or death?

Many thanks

Yorkshire (West Riding) / Advice please on obtaining a will
« on: Sunday 08 March 09 23:58 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

Please can someone advise me where to apply for a copy of a will? Is there a standard charge, if so how much?

I found a ref for an 1890 will I'm interested in, there's a vol, page and deed number. Would this be all the info I'd need to request a copy?  The will ref was taken from 'Indexes at the West Riding Registry of Deeds', which to be honest I don't understand - does this mean it will be a record of land willed to an heir, or a will which included land?  Do I apply to the archives in Wakefield?  The testator was a resident in Huddersfield.

Many thanks.

Yorkshire (West Riding) / Help in establishing parentage please.
« on: Tuesday 03 February 09 00:47 GMT (UK)  »
Hi all,

Looking for help with this.

My gggrandparents George Womersley Armitage (born Huddersfield 1809), and Julia Waring (christened Penistone 1805) were married 24 Dec 1829 at Silkstone church.

Julia's parents' were John Waring/Wearing and Elizabeth Cozens/Cousins.  John and Elizabeth were married at Sheffield St Peter's in 1801.  I have Elizabeth on the 1841 census (living at Hoylandswaine), but unfortunately John isn't with her and I'm presuming he died pre 1841 - and probably much earlier, as I have only found 2 children born to the couple, Julia, and her brother Thomas (1801)

I am trying to establish who John's parents were, infact I thought I had some ALMOST certains - until someone else sowed doubts.  A John Waring was born 1776 in Woolley, his parents were Peter Waring and Julia Lindley, this pair seemed obvious candidates for John's parents as, at least 4 of Peter and Julia's sons, named a daughter Julia after their mother. However, someone else has claimed this John Waring married a widow named Elizabeth Fishburn in 1815, and they were living in Woolley in 1841 BUT, this John Waring according to the 1841 census was born 1766.

Any ideas as to how I can progress with this will be gratefully received.
