G'Day all - Happy New Year
I am hoping that someone can give information on the Relief Ships that were sent to assist the British in the Boxer Rebellion. My wife's ggrandfather was one - he maintained until his death that he was part of the Relief effort.
Thanks

Lancashire / Calendar of Prisoners
« on: Monday 31 December 07 05:01 GMT (UK)  »
Can someone explain this term to me?
I have recently heard that these can be utilized to put meat on the bones of a Convict.
It appears that the Convict that I am searching for was tried in 1829 and sentenced to 7 yrs transportation for stealing ducks.

I was wondering whether Lancashire has such Calendars and if so where they would be located.

Furthermore can anyone tell me what newspapers existed in Lancashire in 1829.

Thanks - and happy new Year!! ;)

London & Middlesex Completed Lookup Requests / Jerred - 1851 Census
« on: Saturday 29 April 06 08:42 BST (UK)  »
Hey Listers
Can anyone tell me if an 1851 Census would be able to be looked at for the following person -

John JERRED born about 1844 (according to 1861 Census) Lodnon, middlesex, england
May have had a sibling Walter (unknown date of birth)

Sort of like looking for a needle in a haystack - but don't have any other info.
In 1861 Census he is boarding with a family Diddems as listed below
RG9/674, Southampton, Southampton, ED 12, Folio 84, Page 20, Household 141

I thought someone was pulling my leg when I found that one DIDDEMS.

Anyway thanks in advance.

Cheshire Lookup Requests / 1841 Census - GREENHAM
« on: Monday 23 January 06 22:19 GMT (UK)  »
If you would love a challenge - I have one for you.
The only piece of information that we have on the brickwall ancestor is that according to him he was born in 1813 in Liverpool, Cheshire.
He died in AUstralia - suspected suicide leaving a family of 11 - with all children extremely young. His widow remarried.
DEath certificate says drowned- birth place Liverpool, Cheshire - I have sent for various birth records from the UK to eliminate people. However to no avail.

His name was Thomas GREENHAM - but he also was sometimes referred to as James GREEN - the family in Australia went under the name GREEN - except for the eldest daughter who was baptised under the name GREENHAM.

I was wondering if anyone who is browsing the 1841 Census could keep in mind the surname GREENHAM for me - I would appreciate it.

DOn't worry - I am not expecting big things on this one - please don't go looking specifically for this needle in a haystack.
Cheers
