I don't think this has already been posted, but for anyone with Westminster interests, FindMyPast have updated the collection, especially for marriages and burials.  There are definitely a lot more available than previously. ;D  How many gaps remain, though, only time will tell. :-\

The Common Room / 1939 National Register 2nd Page Note Query
« on: Monday 02 May 16 15:40 BST (UK)  »
Does anyone have any idea please on what the relevance may be of - see (YAFA - 15772 .. - please?  It has a date marked above it of 28.6.43.  I appreciate that the second page was used later for the NHS but this obviously doesn't relate to that with a date of 1943.  I'm struggling to find a death for my 3xGreat Uncle who this appears against on the 1939 Register in the Poplar Workhouse.  There is no obvious death for him in the GRO index in Sept qtr 1943 in any district.  The only registered death of the right and year of birth would be in Belper RD.  Did the Poplar Workhouse get evacuated to Derbyshire during the war?  I couldn't see anything on workhouse.org to suggest this but I know that Workhouse did suffer during the blitz. :-\

Thanks

Suffolk Completed Lookup Requests / Barrow Burial 1854
« on: Thursday 21 April 16 12:57 BST (UK)  »
Would anyone have access to the Barrow Burial Register for 1854 and could possibly check an entry please?

Suffolk FHS have a note on the burial for William Rosbrook on 18 October 1854 as the "son of Elizabeth", although he was listed as 49 years old and was known to be married.  Elizabeth Rosbrook nee Holden was buried the next day and SFHS have "mother of William" on their index, so its possible the original says "mother of the above".

My own transcripts done around 2001 don't have this note, but then I wasn't as thorough then at transcribing as I am now.  Its possible the note may have been from the BTs, although I would have thought they would have listed that.

If anyone could check the original as my fiche for Barrow only go up to the 1820s, I'd be grateful.

I don't need any other information on William or his family thanks. ;D

Essex Lookup Requests / Braintree Marriage 1825
« on: Friday 15 April 16 10:38 BST (UK)  »
Would anyone be able to take a look at a marriage in 1825 at Braintree St Michael for me please?  I don't currently have a SEAX subscription (have had one for several years in the past) as have been concentrating on researching elsewhere.

Familysearch are showing a marriage from Braintree BTs (confirmed by the film number) for William Dubock and Charlotte Foster on 3 December 1825.  Evidence suggests that the groom's first name is incorrect and I'd be interested to know what the original Parish Registers shows, plus the names of the witnesses if possible.

Any help appreciated.  I don't though need any other information on this couple. ;D

Thanks

Australia / Victoria BMD
« on: Saturday 09 April 16 23:41 BST (UK)  »
Does anyone know whether Victoria are ever likely to bring their online marriage search past 1942 please?  My understand of the privacy rules were that they were restricted for 50 years so in theory one from 1948 should now be accessible, has this changed?

I'm just trying to confirm the first name of my Great Aunt's husband (assuming she did actually marry and didn't just return to the UK 6 months later and assume a new surname).  We have her marriage date from other documents but because the marriage didn't last, nobody alive knows what her husband's first name was.

We don't know for definite it took place in Victoria, but definitely doesn't appear in the NSW records and she did arrive in Australia in Melbourne so may have taken place there.

Thanks

Nicola

PS.  In case anybody is wondering, my Great Aunt died in 1970 at the age of 68 and I would imagine her husband was of a similar age.

Essex Lookup Requests / Bocking Marriage 1893
« on: Wednesday 30 March 16 10:14 BST (UK)  »
Would anyone be able to check the parish registers for Bocking for a marriage for me please?  I don't currently have a subscription to SEAX, have had one previously.

I'm trying to confirm the father's name of Ellen Louisa Adams who married Thomas Walton Martin on 13 June 1893.  The marriage is registered in Braintree Registration District, but the only obvious Ellen I can find is in Bocking on the 1871-1891 Census, the daughter of Timothy and Mary Adams.  The marriage date is from their daughter's birth in Edinburgh in 1894.  Ellen does though list her birthplace as Braintree on the 1901 and 1911 Census.  The only obvious birth is registered as Ellen L Adams in Jun qtr 1866 Braintree RD.

I don't know for certain they married in Bocking, but it seems a possibility as it was part of Braintree RD.  As this is a distant sideline I'm uninclined to purchase the marriage certificate and as I'm not researching much in Essex at present, I don't really want to take out another subscription at present.

I don't need any other information on the family thanks, just confirmation of her father's name.

Many thanks.

Nicola

The Common Room / British Newspaper Archives £1 for 1 Month - ends 2 April 2016
« on: Monday 28 March 16 14:09 BST (UK)  »
Can't see this posted elsewhere, just noticed on Facebook another BNA offer £1 for 1 Month which ends midnight Saturday 2nd.

BNAMAR1FOR1

Note - someone on the BNA FB page was having problems paying so there may be a problem but the website had responded so are aware.  The code is working as I logged out of my account (have half price annual sub at the moment) to test it and discounted a month sub, so may just be a blip in payment screen.
