Hertfordshire / Hertfordshire Parish Registers updated on Findmypast
« on: Tuesday 20 February 18 01:09 GMT (UK)  »
Can't see another post about this.

Not sure if these were added with the "update" to Hertfordshire PRs announced at end of January (which at the time didn't seem from the numbers to be that large compared to what was missing) or if more have been added since, but FindMyPast appear to have finally got round to trying to sort out the mess of missing registers for Hertfordshire (from an email response from the Herts RO archivist the other year, I think they've been working with Familysearch on this).

What have definitely appeared include post 1800/1810 Watford and Rickmansworth, also some 1800s register(s) for Redbourn and Abbots Langley. ;D  There may be others but I have not checked all I want to look for yet.

So if you've been disappointed previously with the poor coverage for the collection on FindMyPast for Hertfordshire, probably worth another look to see if what you were looking for has appeared.

Oxfordshire / Ramsden pre 1872 Chapel Dedication
« on: Monday 01 January 18 08:44 GMT (UK)  »
Does anyone happen to know whether the pre1872 chapel at Ramsden had the same dedication as the church that replaced it from 1872 please?  All I can find via google is that the current church is St James and replaced an earlier chapel that dated from 1842 (prior to that the church at Shipton under Wychwood was used).  I like to include the dedication if possible when recording entries and have a number from the 1850s and 1860s to record.

Thanks

Nicola

Essex / SEAX - What's the date of the first marriage register entry please?
« on: Sunday 24 December 17 01:19 GMT (UK)  »
Could anyone with a current SEAX subscription possibly have a look and let me know what the date is of the first entry in the Plaistow St Mary Register of Marriages 1904-8 D/P 597/1/38 please?

I've a copy of a 1904 marriage for which I'm trying to correctly cite the source but when I downloaded the entry I didn't note which of the two marriage registers covering 1904 it came from.

If anyone could have a quick look and let me know, I'd be grateful.

Thanks

Nicola

Warwickshire / Wills - William Cryer of Hillmorton
« on: Tuesday 26 September 17 17:13 BST (UK)  »
I know Wills and Admons for a lot of Warwickshire were proven at Lichfield or the Prerogative Court of Canterbury, unless they were over near Worcestershire and proven at Worcester and the PCC.  Would there be any other court level where Wills may have been proven?

I'm trying to find the Will of a William Cryer who I think may well have died at Hillmorton in 1766.  I should say there are several William Cryers in the parish and the 1767 burial has an associated Administration for that William, the two being different people.  John Cryer son of the other William Cryder died in 1789 and his Will mentions the "Last Will and Testement of my father William".  That Will doesn't appear in the Lichfield Wills on FindMyPast, the Northamptonshire Wills index or Prerogative Court of Canterbury Wills.

Bedfordshire / ADAM in Woburn
« on: Monday 18 September 17 13:57 BST (UK)  »
Hi, does anyone have access to the Woburn PRs and could possibly check please to see if there are any other children to a William and Mary Adam in there in the late 1700s?

Familysearch list a John Adam baptised to William and Mary on 8 May 1791.  On the 1851 Census he's married up in Pontefract and in 1861 in Tanshelf, where he dies in 1865 leaving a probate, whom the executor his a relative of his wife (whom he married in April 1837 in Pontefract).

John was listed as a Greenwich pensioner on the 1861 Census.

I'm wondering whether the family stayed in Woburn or moved elsewhere.  The surname could unfortunately of course also appear as Adams.

Thanks

Nicola

Can anyone help me please with a synopsis about what this part of Sentence actually says?  I know it refers to Edith Glide als Cusse and Prudence Cusse als Barrett but I'm struggling to pick out much else with my limited knowledge of Latin and the handwriting is making it difficult (if it was in English I'd have no problem reading the hand writing from the period, just only have very limited knowledge of Latin).

The full "sentence" can be view on Ancestry here - William Cusse of Marston, Wiltshire 1618 - http://www.rootschat.com/links/01k62/.

I've attached a screen shot of part of the document below.

I'd like to know the gist of what it says to work out which William Cusse it refers to as there were two buried in South Marston in 1616, both refered to as Senior, but only one Sarum Will from that year (which I've not seen yet) and the index doesn't give the full date.

Don't need any information on Edith Glide als Cusse, I know who she was, and I think Prudence Cusse als Barrett may have been William's widow and remarried in Eisey in 1617.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks

Nicola

Appear to have been released today, spotted while searching for something else.  They've been a bit flaky and throwing up error screen a lot of the time, but now appear to be working normally.

United States of America / 1 Tobin Court, Roxbury, Massachusetts
« on: Monday 08 May 17 19:40 BST (UK)  »
I appreciate we're not allowed to request lookup on pay per view sites,  However, I am having no luck picking up a family on the 1940 Census who were residing in 1942 at 1 Tobin Court, Roxbury, according to an elder sibling's WW2 Draft Registration Card.  I know its possible they weren't there but all evidence suggests they were in the Roxbury area at the time.

I'm trying to help a friend to confirm a relative is actually a relative since the relative is unforthcoming with much information and the relative's grandparent's marriage does not have the correct first names for the bride's parents.  Assuming that it is the correct grandparent's marriage, then I know what the father's first name was (my friend hasn't even been given that but I've deduced it from other records for the couple) but we can't ascertain what the relative's mother's name was.  The relative, who is still alive and in her 90s, may well be still with them in 1940 but a spouse's name for the husband might enable me to locate the family on the 1930 Census.  My friend knows the name of a sibling who apparently died last year but that's not helping either.

Could anyone see if they could pick up the address please and give me a clue to locate it?

Thanks

Nicola
