Sussex Lookup Requests / Re: Elizabeth Shepherd/Sheppard
« on: Sunday 18 May 08 20:30 BST (UK)  »
Thanks for replying. I don't have her marriage certificate as yet but have the information from the Somerset Coalfield Connections site.

24 December 1839: David Box, a bachelor of full age, resident in Midsomer Norton, employed as a coal miner; son of John Box, a coal miner married after banns Elizabeth Sheppard, a spinster of full age, resident in Midsomer Norton; daughter of William Sheppard, a labourer. The marriage was witnessed by Isaac Horler and Mary Ann Gregory.
I do know that her mother was Hester and have no problem with thinking that I am on the wrong track. The witnesses I think are friends  as they are names local to the area.
It is just that it is a loose end that I would like to tie up and also find where her father is buried before 1835.

Northamptonshire Lookup Requests / Re: Parish records for Crick

Thanks for replying. I realise that there are no registered certificates for marriages before 1837 , but there should be a copy of a marriage from the parish record, even if it is just a BT. I like to see the actual record and save the paper work.
Carose
surely marriage certs did not exist before 1837? You will need someone to look at the parish record for you and all that will show is the couple getting married, witnesses and who married them

Northamptonshire Lookup Requests / Parish records for Crick
« on: Friday 16 May 08 17:04 BST (UK)  »
Does anyone have access to the parish records for Crick please?  I am researching the names Vaus and Shepherd. William Shepherd married Esther/Hester Vaus in Crick on Oct 18th 1813.
I would like a copy of the actual marriage certificate if there is anyone who could copy this for me, perhaps at a record office. I only have the information that someone has sent to me from the marriage index disc. I will reimburse you for it.
I believe that Hester's parents were William and Mary. [from the IGI] I would like to find any additional information e.g their marriage, if it took place at Crick, and any other siblings.
Thank you,
Carose

Her ages on the census --  on the 41 she is 20, the 51 she is 29, the 61 she is 39, the 71 she is 49, the 81 she is 58, and on the 91 she is 69. She lived in Radstock, Somerset, where she married davis Box.
I have re-found her death  reg. and sent for her death certificate this morning.  Betsy Box aged 77 died in the March qtr of 1898 registered Clutton.

Trying this on the Glos site as  the family could be anywhere.
Could someone please help in the search for the baptism of my 3xgrtgrandmother Elizabeth Shepherd, born I think, in 1821. Her place of birth has been a brick wall, partly because the wrong information was given, to her being born in 1823 in Hove. Having checked the actual census pages, I  have the following information.
On the 41 for Radstock in Somerset, it says that she was born in the county [Somerset]
On the 51 it says Kent and Sussex is crossed out. [Kent was incorrectly given as Hove ]
On the 61 it says Midsomer Norton [Somerset]
On the 71 it says Sussex, NK.
On the 81 it just says Sussex
On the 91 it is left blank, and assume it is supposed to be the same as the person above her, which says Bristol.
Her parents were William  Shepherd and Hester/esther Vaus  married in Crick Northants in 1813 and said to be OTP.
She had a sister Mary Ann born supposedly at Binegar in 1816 but no baptism has been found for her there, although she lived  married and died in Somerset
I haven't found any other siblings although there are two on the IGI to a Willm and Esther Shepherd
Charlotte Shepherd bapd 24 Sep 1820 Yapton Sussex
William       =            =      9 April 1824     =          =        burial 18 May 1824

Elizabeth is in Radstock and married on the 41 census to David Box and remained there for the rest of her life.  I was sure I found her death  in 1898 aged 77 but cannot for the life of me now find it on Freebmd.
Her father William died sometime before 1835 as her mother Hester remarried in 1835 to George Gulliford in Radstock.
Where William died is a mystery as he doesn't appear to be in any of the Somerset records that I have searched
If anyone can throw any light on this family, I would be eternally grateful.
Thank you, Carose
