Scotland / Re: Lookup please - Janet PEAT 1841c Census/Death
« on: Thursday 28 February 08 13:54 GMT (UK)  »
Thank you Gadget - for all your help.

Mary PATE/PEAT was tried as Mary WEIR at Northumberland, England.  It was thought that WEIR was her married name:

MIDSUMMER SESSIONS 13 JULY 1792

Mary Weir came from the Parish of Hexham in the said County single woman,
and there she pleaded guilty to counts of Larceny on the 17 July thirty
third year of the Reign of the Sovereign Lord, George the Third, King his
Crown and Dignity. Mary Weir of the Parish of Hexham aforesaid was sentenced
to be transported to his Majesties Settlements on the Eastern Coast of New
South Wales for the term of seven years or to any other of his Majesties
Dominions beyond the seas for that time for the theft of one petticoat from
Mary Leighton.

Oops almost forgot -  As far as we know; Janet PATE/PEAT never married.  Mary referred to her as Janet PEAT.

Cheers,

Hello Gadget,

Thank you for your reply.  I am sorry for not giving more information...I am going around in the dark in circles with the Scottish records!... ???

Mary PATE/PEAT is believed to have been about 83 when she died in Australia in 1841.  It's believed that she was abt 1758c at Lesmagahow.

Her brother, the Rev James PATE was born 1748 at Shotts.  Father is said to be William PATE.

She also had another brother, Col John PATE/PEAT.

They were all mentioned in Mary's Will.

Any information/assistance would be most welcomed, Gadget!... :)

Kind regards,

Christine

Scotland / Lookup please - Janet PEAT 1841c Census/Death

Would SKS lookup for me a Census and Death for Janet PEAT or PATE.

I am working from an 1841 Will of her sister, Mary WEIR in Australia.  Janet
was alive at that time.  Mary's Will states that her sister "Janet lived in
the county of Lanrick(could this be the Royal  Burgh Lanark?) near Glasgow".

Any information/assistance would be welcomed!

Kind Regards,

I couldn't get to it from the link posted, but found it through a search engine. Only difference in the address seems to be the htm suffix.

Isabel

Thank you everyone for your time.  That link does work.

Christine

Hi everyone,

I am researching the Rev James PATE who was the Church of Scotland minister at Innerleithen, Peebleshire in the early to mid 1800s.

His wife name was Jean.

Any information about James Pate and family would be welcomed.

Regards,

Christine
