Good Morning, Victor.

There are children post-1837.
Robert* c1838
Edward Richard born Q2 1840
Stephen William born Q3 1842

*Curious about this one as there is a Robert Marshall in your post above in 1829.
His age (3) in 1841 fits in line with the other children and would leave quite a gap if he wasn't there - Thomas being 6 and Richard (Edward) 1 year old.
Surely someone wouldn't put their 12 year old down as 3?
Although, Louisa isn't on the census with them and she would be ~4... So maybe she would fill the gap and Robert should have been 13 but the 1 got lost and the enumerator thought it said 3 and so moved him to where he thought he should be in the age organised list?
Sorry thinking with my fingers.
I have to go out this morning but I'll spend some time this afternoon seeing if I can find Robert on subsequent census returns.

Agree, totally!
I index for Ryerson, and this is from PRINTED papers, and sometimes the spelling mistakes are incredible!
So you have to use your noggin and not just copy blindly
Spelling mistakes should be copied as they are.
What I was referring to was when you're not sure what the word could be. Either have someone else take a look, let your transcriber team leader know you had difficulty with a particular word or something.

In the instance of the OP where Albert's occupation as a "woman" would make zero sense that's when you need to think "does it really say that?" and look closer / ask for second opinion.

As an example, if at first glance a POB looked like Nnffiuglun - that doesn't make sense. A closer look, knowledge of how letters were formed, looking at other letter forms of that particular hand, asking a second opinion and suddenly you realise it quite clearly says Nottingham.
The flip side being that if it quite clearly says Notingham (single t) - you need to keep it as that and not correct the spelling.

Thank you, Victor. I didn't have the baptisms so they are gratefully received.

Technical Help / Re: Back button
« on: Friday 09 May 14 09:52 BST (UK)  »
If you hold Ctrl when you click a link it will open in a new tab.
If you hold Shift when you click a link it will open in a new window.
These mean you can flit between 2 tabs/windows (your pref) without having to go back.
Sometimes if the page you want to go back to was a search results page you can find it won't go back, it will return you to where you want to leave or you may get a page expired error - using the above methods avoids that.

Note: Those are for Windows PC - I'm not sure of the equivalent on a MAC - I think Ctrl = Cmd key.

Gloucestershire / WYATT & MARSHALL - Todenham
« on: Thursday 08 May 14 22:20 BST (UK)  »
I've looked for info on this couple before - links at bottom of this post - I'm hoping that maybe a few years down the line that there might be new info available :)

Richard WYATT married Lucy MARSHALL 05 Oct 1820 Todenham

So, I'm in need of a death for Richard WYATT. I had originally thought the 1845 Bedminster death was his but that's rather far away and that Richard is also on the 1841 census in Bedminster so that rules him out.
R & L seem to have been fairly regular in child bearing c1823; c1824; c1825; {gap?}; c1831; c1833; c1835; c1838; Q2 1840; Q3 1842. So I would think this is likely to place Richard's death around 1843/1844 otherwise I'd expect another child after Stephen Wm.

I have a baptism for Richard WYATT 10 Apr 1788 Todenham son of Richard and Susannah - is that too early to be Richard who marries Lucy in 1820?
A Richard WYATT married Mary WALTON 06 Aug 1804 Todenham - is this the same Richard? He'd only be 16 then.

I have nothing for Lucy MARSHALL before she marries Richard WYATT.
Lucy WYATT died 1851 Q3 Shipston on Stour 11 303 although the registration is Q3 she was buried 10 May 1851 Todenham (St Thomas)

Looking for baptism for Lucy http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=382396 (back then I had wrong death reg for her - in fact I can't even find the reg I have there ???)
Richard & Lucy http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=542057 (some burials there but I don't know how they fit in with R & L). Possible Lucy baptism but I think it's much too early bp in 1787 would make her at least 55 in 1842 when she had Stephen William.

The Lighter Side / Re: What about these relationships?
« on: Thursday 08 May 14 14:54 BST (UK)  »
On my partners side 2 of his cousins have kids with the same women. So the kids are half sisters but also 2nd cousins.

She was with cousin1 and had a child they were together for a short time, then about 10 years later she got with cousin2 and had a child to him. Cousin1 and cousin2's dads are brothers.

I can go a bit better here...
I have a woman who had a child with a man and less than 3 years later had a child with his brother. The children are half-siblings and 1st cousins :D

Different sites do their own transcriptions (either via volunteers or paid) but don't share their work efforts with other sites.

Having done some transcribing I know and understand that you transcribe what you see HOWEVER if what you think you see at first can't make sense it should be an indicator to have another look and see if you can make a better judgment or even to ask someone else to take a look.
I do think *some* transcribers just enter the first thing that they *think* they see regardless.
In the instance of the OP Albert can be fairly sure of being male - his name, his relationship of son to the head of household and his gender given as M. Therefore one would think "hang on, 'woman' for occupation doesn't make sense - I better have a closer look..."
