Monmouthshire Lookup Requests / 1891 - a difficult request
« on: Saturday 11 February 06 23:17 GMT (UK)  »
On behalf of a friend I am trying to help them with a start to their research. So my request is a little vague, and I am working with a few guesses here ???

What I have from the 1901 census is:-

William Oran Allan  born1885 Brynmawr, Breconshire
Elizabeth Allan       born 1865 Dukestown,Breconshire

This mother and son were living inTredegar(Sirhowy) from at least 1898, possibly earlier.  Also, I have a possible birth for William, which is registered under Pontypool.  Would Brynmawr  be included in the area of Pontypool for registration.  Although I did think Brynmawr would be in Breconshire - but I know how inaccurate census details can be ;D

Any help with them in 1891 would be gratefully appreciated

Thanks,
Caroline :)

Monmouthshire Lookup Requests / Re: Lewis Davies 1861/1871 - Rhymney
« on: Sunday 29 January 06 16:38 GMT (UK)  »
Wow Kate

that was quick :o

They were at  No 9 in 1881, and Lewis was described as Timberman Coal Miner.

They seem to be getting rather confused about their ages ???  I seem to have the same problem myself :-[

Thanks
Caroline :)

« on: Sunday 29 January 06 16:17 GMT (UK)  »
Would anyone be able to lookup the family of Lewis Davies. I believe they should be in the Rhymney area as their children were born there. :)

DAVIES, Lewis 1826 Cardigan    coalminer
              Ann    1820 Merthyr Tydfil
              Margaret 1851/3
              Lewis 1860
              John  1862
              Mary J 1866

In 1881 they were living in Morgan Row.
Any extra information would be of help,
thank you.

Glamorganshire / Re: 1841 Census
« on: Tuesday 24 January 06 13:48 GMT (UK)  »
Well that explains a lot for me too.  My Griffiths family should have been in the Dowlais area in 1841 as their children were born there.  I couldn't find them in Glamorgan, Monmouthshire or Breconshire.  So they probably, they were in Dowlais all the time  ::)

Thanks for the info. Newbie -I think I will stop despairing about them for a while.

Glamorganshire Lookup Requests / Re: 1891 census - Ystraddyfodwg - Griffiths

Thank you Anne,

That as got to be them, Louise later has a daughter whom she calls Emily. All the places of birth are the same and with the other three names being correct - it must be them.

thanks again,

Caroline :)

Wales / Re: translation needed

Hi Trystan,

I thought it looked like that too, so I tried a Welsh/English translation which came up with 'no matches' :'(

So I am back to my original dilemma ???
