Got it, did a happy dance, called my Mum, messaged my Uncle, re-read it and had a coffee to recover  ;)

Wow, thanks for that!  Poor other Mary!  Unless she had passed away before George met my Mary...

Thanks for that - where did you find it?  I am a complete novice at looking for things in Scotland.  Thank goodness for you all!

Kia ora from New Zealand!

Would it be possible for someone to do a look up for me at Mitchell Library?

My Grandaunt Annie was born in 1894 in King Edward, Aberdeenshire.  Her biological father is listed as being George Milne, a Constable in the Glasgow Police Force. Her mother's name was Mary Urquhart.  At the time of her birth she had her mother's maiden name as her surname:

Annie Georgina Lyon Milne Urquhart

When Mary married William Jamieson, Annie took his last name.

We have been talking about it on the  New Zealand Board http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=752419.0, as I had no information about Annie, so didn't know where to start in Scotland.

The wonderful Millmoor/ William can't find a record of a Constable George Milne - can any of you help?

Many thanks

KG

It just says George Milne. Looking again his address seems to be 17 Sandyford Street. I cannot see a Police Constable called George Milne in Glasgow in the 1901 census. Apparently the Glasgow Police records are held at the Mitchell Library in Glasgow - might it be worth an e mail to them or a request for a look up?
....

William

Now that I have a name, place and occupation I shall try the Scotland boards for Annie's Daddy - wish me luck!
