Leicestershire / Re: Frisby connection

On reflection I could have put that better.
The first Thomas has been taken from my family tree and the second from the tree of a person with whom I share DNA. The only name to currently appear on both trees is Frisby so we're both assuming that's where the commonality arises.

I am by no means certain that there is a connection. If there is, I know it is not paternal. DNA matches convince me that my mainly Warwickshire Frisby ancestors are connected to Leicestershire, as proven by my 4 x gt grandfather's life in Appleby Magna and Market Harborough. What I really can't work out is why my 3 x gt grandfather, William (1776 -1832) was born in Stratford - on - Avon when his brother, also Thomas was born in Melton Mowbray in 1778.

Warwickshire Lookup Requests / Re: Henry LINFORD - Birmingham 1901

Okay, my mistake. I picked up the wronng Henry.

So we're talking about Henry Joseph, born 29 Apr 1897. Probate records say that he died on 28 Jan 1972 whilst living at 9 Orchard St, Highley, Bridgnorth, Shropshire. He left £2,295.

The 1901 census has his parents at 2 Bk 18 Clifford St., Aston but without Henry, who would have been about 4 at the time.
Somewhat strangely Henry does not appear on either. 1911 census either.
In 1920 he was living with his parents at 11 Nigel Rd., Saltley.
By 1939 he was living at 178-180 Arden Rd., Aston, where he was managing a tea and confectionery shop.

I'll keep digging.

Pinetree,

Are we talking about the same Henry? My records have him married to Catherine (Kate) Blackwell in 1886 and dying in the 3rd quartr of 1919. Ref: 6d 395
In 1901 the family were living at House 8, 2 Court, Paddington St., Aston. The 1911 census shows him widowed and living witth two of his children, Arthur (23) and Catherine (15) at 51 Paddington St. Although I'm inclined to agree with Jim as to likely place of burial a search of Birmingham Council owned burial grounds doesn't show him up so I suppose its posssible he was buried at St Peter and St Paul, Aston.

Warwickshire / Jessie Isobel Sanders (1907-2000) and family
« on: Thursday 08 September 22 17:12 BST (UK)  »
Whilst walking through the graveyard at Christ Church, Yardley Wood, Birmingham recently I came across a magnificent and obviously expensive headstone dedicated to Elizabeth Sanders (1881-1947), her husband Howard (1876-1958) and their daughter Jessie (1907-2000). As we have Sanders on our tree I photographed the stone for later research. So far as I can tell we are not connected to that family but before I delete the image I wonder whether anyone would like a copy, showing precise death dates in each case. If so, please pm me with an email address to which a copy may be sent.

Unfortunately many Warwick Assize Court records were destroyed in antiquity. When trying to discover the facts about an ancestor convicted and transported in 1817 I found very little until I placed an enquiry on the Australia Rootschat forum, after which Aussie researchers provided a treasure trove  of information, including far more about the alleged crime than I had been able to get from the UK.

Good luck and I hope you find what you're looking for.

Thank you both, Matthew and Giblet for yet more very interesting links. I must admit that when posting my original query I had not expected to get much response at all, let alone the rich pickings which kind people are providing.

With extreme gratitude,

Keith

George married Ann Sheldon in England in 1778 and they had 10 children, the youngest of whom was born just three months before his conviction. Ann remarried bigamously in 1819.

I spent several months researching the story behind his court appearance and he appears to have been a wholesaler of counterfeit pound notes working for a well established ring of forgers who had operated successfully for several years. It fell apart in 1816 when one of its agents was caught in London and named all of those involved in order to get a reduced sentence. Five members of the group, including George, were sentenced to transportation and the woman who had controlled the ring since its inception some 10 years before, was hanged. Unfortunately the Warwick Assize records had been destroyed at some time in history and I ended up getting a lot of help from the Bank of England archives, the bank having been the prosecuting authority in such cases at the time.
