Hi Alli,

I had a few minutes to enter the information you sent me on Lashmars and they definitely are useful.  Just one question - what were the sources of the baptisms, marriages, and burials?  They sort of look like what would come from parish registers. And were they all for St. Nicholas in Brighton?

Many thanks again for your help!

Hi Alli,

I'm busy right now so don't have time to check out all the info you've sent, but just wanted to say thanks!  I very much appreciate it.

Thanks Andrea & Nell,

Sorry about not specifying the date range.  Although I'm mainly interested in pre-1858 wills, post-1858 wills are also useful.

I will try the First Avenue House, High Holburn web site - I don't think I knew about that.

I search the Access to Archives web site fairly regularly, though I do a general search (due to the relative rarity of the surname) rather than via the catalogues - I'm not sure if the catalogues link would give me different results, but I'll give it a try.

Re the Sussex Record Offices, I guess I'm wondering if there might be any better strategy for finding out what they might have beyond just e-mailing them and asking for records of all Lashmar wills.

Sussex / Lashmar wills - Sussex

I've obtained relevant Lashmar wills via the National Archives Documents Online (I'm from Vancouver, Canada). but would like to obtain wills which may not have been proved via the PCC.  I'm particularly interested in wills for Lashmars in Brighton, Steyning, and Henfield.  My understanding is that I should go through the East or West Sussex Record Offices.

Any suggestions would be welcome.

Thanks!

Thanks, gougy,

That definitely adds to the "Tuppen Lashmar" line.  Much appreciated!

Sussex / Re: Steyning Parish Registers

Hi Chris,

Thanks for the quick reply!  If this is the correct one, then it may help to solidify the connection between John Lashmar Jr. and Steyning, since Mary may not have come from there (I'd thought, perhaps wrongly, that since the marriage entry indicated John was from Brighthelmstone but didn't note anything for Mary, then perhaps she was from Steyning).  I should have mentioned that her age was from the 1841 Census, which of course may mean her age may have been noted to the nearest 5 years.

Thanks again,

Murray

Still looking for more info on John Lashmar and Mary Young:  According to the Steyning marriage entry, Mary was born in Sussex ca 1791 (the 1799 date in my first posting is incorrect).  I'd very much appreciate it if anyone could check to see if there's any birth or baptism entry for Mary in the Steyning registers for around 1791.

Thanks!
