Glamorganshire / Re: Aberkenfig baptisms, where do I find them?
« on: Thursday 23 April 09 22:39 BST (UK)  »
Just so you are aware, Aberkenfig Church (St. Johns) is in the parish of Newcastle Higher, Newcastle Lower is part of Bridgend town.  There is another church on the outskirts of Aberkenfig which mainly covered the Sarn area which is Llansantffraid Church, which I think may be in a different parish.

Trish, see what you mean, but have often come across this - no or odd numbers of people on page. Don't know the answer, perhaps person or partner wrongly transcribed?

Welshjo

Do you have Stradlings in your tree?  If so I would love to hear from you, my Stradlings are from Coity but I do wonder if some strayed to the Maesteg area, please pm me if you think they maybe related, my earliest Stradling is William born abput 1808 in Coity.

Glamorganshire / Re: 'Mental home' in Bridgend
« on: Thursday 02 April 09 19:04 BST (UK)  »
There were two "Mental" Hospitals in the Bridgend area, one was Parc Gwyllt Hospital (which I think would have come under the parish of Coity Higher), it has since been demolished and Parc Prison is now on its site.  The other was Angelton, later renamed Glan Rhyd Hospital (possible under the parish of Newcastle Higher),  it is still in use.  Both were/are within 3 miles of Bridgend town.

Hi, I'm not from the area, but visited last year and thought the village was very small, but suppose that records would cover surrounding farms etc.

If you've double checked your findings perhaps the other person is in the wrong but doesn't want to admit it, I've come across a few people like that.  All you can do is check the original records or ask someone to check for you.

Good luck.

Completed Census Requests / Re: Lodger Basechild? 1851 Census

Hi, I realise that your message is rather old now, but I've only just found it by googling "Hannah Pugsley", she was my great, great grandmother.  I have traced her ancestry a few generations on her mothers side, but not sure if I've got it correct, if you are still interested I would love to hear from you and share any information.

Hi, I am also trying to trace the name Vaulter and have got well and truly stuck with George b. c.1775, I have noticed that you have Margaret (mother of James b.1850-51) married to William, I have the marriage certificate of James which states his fathers name as John and have found a marriage record of John and Margaret Bond at Luccombe in 1839, but I cannot find a birth record for James or a death record for John which I believe must be around the same time as James is 2 months old on the 1851 census but there is no record of John!

If you are interested I have traced Margarets ancestry back to about 1700 and would be happy to share the information - let me know.  By the way George married Elizabeth Clatworthy in 1804, her mother was a Pritchard.
