Can anyone improve this photo of my late sister in law, she had black hair and green eyes, there are very few photos of her and this is the best we have.

Thanks so much everyone, didn't expect so many responses.  I browse this part of the forum nearly every day, I just love old photos, and I'm always amazed by the quality of your work.

Thanks again,

Mags

My Mum in her early twenties, my Dad always carried this photo in his wallet, she had dark brown hair (almost black) and grey/green eyes.  I would appreciate any improvement

Hi Liz, Joseph Pool married Hannah Pugsley, her sister Fanny married a John Pool, also, according to the 1861 census, born in Bristol - I've found a baptism for John Abrahm Poole at St. James, Bristol to parents John and Ann in 1826 which fits.

I've somehow always suspected that the two sisters married two brothers.

John and Fanny have a son John aged 9 in 1861, the only birth that fits this is a John Abraham Poole in 1851, so apart from the occupation of John Snr this all looks good, would you be able to look up where John and Ann were living at the time of the 1826 baptism and his occupation then?  Also any clues to Anns' maiden name or a marriage for them?

Thanks again for your interest and help.

Liz, thanks, there's no mention of Bedminster on census records and father John is recorded as a labourer on Josephs' marriage cert.  I doesn't look very likey now that the St. James baptism is the right one.

Another thing, a few census for Joseph say Bristol, Somerset - I know that Bristol was sort of split between the two counties, was St. James in Gloucestershire or Somerset.  Do you know of any sort of list or map which show the Bristol parishes/areas and which county they belong to.  I've had problems searching the Bristol area before and it would be nice to be able to print off something to refer to, or maybe I could type one up if I could find the information.

Thanks for your time, it is very much appreciated.

Thanks for your thoughts Liz, I have wondered if somehow it was meant to say City.  As yet I haven't found the likely parents, John and Ann Pool(e) on any census or a marriage for them.  There are Trees on Ancestry that claim John was born in Luxborough, which is quite possible as Joseph turns up there by 1841, also on Josephs marriage cert. one of the witnesses is Sarah Heard and these trees have a Sarah Heard as the mother of John, so a possible relation there.

I have contacted a couple of the Tree holders on Ancestry but they haven't given me any info. regards sources, hopefully I'll get there one day. :)
