Northumberland / Isaac Ormston(e)/Ormiston(e) - c.1762
« on: Saturday 07 January 23 18:15 GMT (UK)  »
Hi all,

I am searching for more information about the family of Isaac Ormstone.  I believe he married Ann (Agness) Simpson on 21st May 1795 in Kirknewton and they had the following children:

Frank/Francis 1796
John 1797-1805
Margaret 1799 (my connection)
Elizabeth 1803
Agness 1807

All baptised in Ford/Etal (Presbytarian)

According to death records, Isaac died in 1848, aged 86, in Lucker.  However, I cannot find any baptism records for him, to find out more about his family.  According to the 1841 census, he was born in Northumberland.  Can anyone help, please?

London and Middlesex / William Blake - Lambeth - 1770 ish
« on: Sunday 30 October 22 11:56 GMT (UK)  »
Dear all,

I have been chasing down this line since well before 2005 and have not got far!  The latest post from me regarding this group is from 2020, which is here: https://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=837374.msg7027434#msg7027434

I am stuck on William Blake, who was my 4 x Gt Grandfather.  There are the following children baptised to William and Sarah, in Lambeth, in the right timeframe:

William Henry born 11/01/1793, baptised 10/02/1793 St Leonard Streatham (father - Labourer)
Sarah born 06/06/1794, baptised 13/07/1794 St Leonard Streatham (father - Labourer) (possible burial 09/10/1794)
Possible marriage of William Blake (wid.) to Sarah Bening (sp.) 06/05/1795 St Leonard Streatham
John born 26/09/1795, baptised 08/11/1795 St Leonard Streatham (father - Labourer) (possible burial 17/12/1797 at St Mary Lambeth - no age given - residence Prince's Street)
Sarah Ann born 03/03/1798, baptised 17/06/1798 St Mary Lambeth (possible burial 28/06/1798 St Mary Lambeth - no age given - residence Prince's Street)
Thomas baptised 10/11/1799 St Mary Lambeth
Mary Ann born 04/08/1801, baptised 02/05/1802 St Mary Lambeth
Ann baptised 07/03/1804 St Mary Lambeth
Anna born 24/12/1806, baptised 07/09/1806 St Mary Lambeth
Eliza baptised 25/12/1809
Joseph born 28/12/1811, baptised 28/06/1812 St Mary Lambeth
Richard born 06/07/1813, baptised 25/12/1813 St Mary Lambeth (father - labourer, abode Vauxhall) - my 3 x Gt Grandfather

Burial record for a William Blake: 14/11/1817 St Mary Lambeth, William Blake, Abode - Vauxhall Walk, age 44.
Burial record for a Sarah Blake: 23/06/1816 St Mary Lambeth, Sarah Blake, Abode - Vauxhall, age 45.

I am starting to think that maybe Sarah Bening is a red herring?  I thought a first wife for William could have been Mary Bowyer, but the other children were also baptised to a Sarah, so this would not work.  However, I cannot yet find a marriage for William to a Sarah that would fit the timeframe.

Ancestry is suggesting a DNA link for me, to people connected to William Henry Blake 1793, which suggests that they all were one big family.  Maybe.

Any help after the best part of 20 years staring at William would be very much appreciated!

Hampshire & Isle of Wight / Stephen Vicars/Vickars/Vickers - c1781
« on: Saturday 27 August 22 20:50 BST (UK)  »
I have found a Stephen Vicars on the 1851 census.  It says that he was 70 years old and born in Whitchurch, Hampshire.  He died in Reading in 1858, aged 78.  Would someone be able to find a baptism for him, please?

Many thanks. :)

Hampshire & Isle of Wight / John Fewtrell abt.1784 - Odiham - parents?
« on: Wednesday 24 August 22 20:47 BST (UK)  »
Dear all,

I have John Fewtrell, born around 1784 in Odiham, Hampshire, according to the 1851 census.  He passed away in 1854.  He married Lucy Warner in 1809 in Farnham, Surrey.

I have seen trees with John having parents John Fewtrell and Lucey Little, who were married in 1782 in Farnham, Surrey.  It is possible that Lucy died in 1786 and then John went on to marry an Elizabeth?

However...I have found a baptism for John Fewtrell in Odiham on 6th October 1784, to John Fewtrell and Mary Goodyer.  I can't find anything else for these two people - either marriage or further children.

Any help would be gratefully received!

Many thanks.  :)

England / Tryman Hooke(s) - London to Norfolk??
« on: Tuesday 23 August 22 11:27 BST (UK)  »
Dear all,

While researching a tree for a friend, I came across the name Tryman Hookes.  Tryman married Rose Short on 10th April 1694, in Little Walshingham, Norfolk.  They were both of the parish.

There are several trees available, which state that Tryman was born in Fulham, London.  I have looked at everything for Try* or Tri* or Tym* Hook* and have found the following records:

Tryman Hooke married Sara(h) Dog(g)well on 29th June 1662 at St Mary Islington.

Tryman Hooke was buried 22nd July 1699 at All Saints Fulham.

Trymon Hooke was baptised 26th September 1675 at All Saints Fulham, to William and Mary.

Tryman Hooke (Husbandman) married Mary Wicks on 20th May 1700 at Holy Trinity Knightsbridge.

Tryman Hook was baptised on 24th November 1706 at All Saints Fulham, to Tryman (Farmer) and Mary Hook.  I am aware that Tryman and Mary had 9 other children in Fulham.

Tryman Hooke (the one born 1675?) was buried on 26th August 1731 at All Saints Fulham.

1721 - Duties paid for Apprentices' Indentures: Richard Dutton Cill Tilor and Bricklayer.  Apprentice: Tryman, son of Tryman Hook of Fulham, Gardener.

Tryman Hooke, Bricklayer of Fulham married Mary Stone (widow) of Christchurch Spitalfields on 9th June 1744.

Tryman Hooks (Browns Lane) was buried on 21st October 1747 at Christchurch Spitalfields.

In Norfolk:

Tryman Hook married Margaret Matthews on 23rd October 1722 in North Creake, Norfolk.
They had two children in North Creake, Elizabeth (Jul 1723) and Robert (Nov 1724).

Tryman Hooke married Sarah Claxton on 7th April 1729 at Sculthorpe, Norfolk.

Triman Hooke was buried on 9th December 1729 in South Creake.  Possibly the one married to Rose Short?  Rose died in 1727).

Triman Hooke was baptised on 13th May 1723 in South Creake, to Robert and Ellenor - buried 6th April 1724.

Tryman Hooke was baptised on 7th September 1735 in South Creake, to Thomas and Mary.  (I know where he fits!)

Tryman Hooke was baptised on 25th November 1739 in South Creake, to Robert and Mary.

30th June 1753 Duties paid for Apprentices' Indentures: Thomas Murland of East Rudham, Norfolk, Butcher.  Apprentice: Tryman Hook.

Trimant Hook married Elizabeth Middleton on 20th October 1757 in Wells, Norfolk.
There are several children baptised/buried to them, including one for a Trimant Hook, but no date was visible.

So, here I am in a muddle of Trymans and variations thereof!  I'm not sure what I'm asking for here, but maybe a fresh pair of eyes could help?  Some of the records have apparent obvious links to each other, but others not.  If I can figure out how the London Trymans connect to my friend's 8xGt Grandfather in Norfolk, that would be fantastic!

Many thanks.

Nottinghamshire / Woolston Flint - anything at all! Married 1750.
« on: Wednesday 10 August 22 18:31 BST (UK)  »
Dear all,

I am on the look out for information on Woolston/Woolstan/Wolston/Woolstone Flint.

A bit of background: I have a Robert Walker in the tree I am working on, who married Mary Flint (baptised in Greasley on 27th March 1758 to Woolston Flint).  Mary died in 1783/4.  Robert then married Hannah Flint.  As far as I can find, there is a Hannah Flint baptised on 23rd April 1755 to William and Elizabeth Flint in Greasley.

Robert Walker and Hannah Flint went on to name a child Woolston/Woolstan in 1793.  Was Hannah the daughter of Woolston and Jane, too?  I am unable to find any proof of this.

In addition, I cannot find anything for Woolston senior, other than his marriage to Jane Dennis in 1750.  If anyone else could pad him out a bit, that would be great!

Many thanks.

Northamptonshire / James Underwood - 1780 - Yardley Hastings - baptism/marriage?
« on: Saturday 06 August 22 15:44 BST (UK)  »
Dear all,

I have James Underwood, born abt 1780 in Yardley Hastings.

On the 1851 census (HO107/1738; Folio: 29; Page: 14) James is married to Hannah, aged 78, born in Rothwell.

Can anyone find a marriage for these two?

I am also struggling to find a baptism for James.  If anyone could help, it would be very useful!

Many thanks.

Hampshire & Isle of Wight / Mary Moldon - ca.1776 Droxford - marriage and baptism?
« on: Saturday 06 August 22 08:29 BST (UK)  »
Dear all,

I have discovered a Mary Moldon, who married Edmund Reeves in Droxford on 13th February 1795.  I have not seen the record myself - does anyone have access to these records, in case there are any further details given?

Mary was on the 1841 census, living in Droxford Heath, with her daughter Sarah.  She is listed as being born in Hampshire.  Sadly, Mary died in January 1851, so this is all the information I have on her.  So far, I have not found a birth/baptism record for her.

Any help would be very gratefully received!

Many thanks.

Somerset / Benjamin Cottle ca.1751 Marston Magna - parents?
« on: Thursday 04 August 22 22:56 BST (UK)  »
Dear all,

I have reached Benjamin Cottle of Marston Magna, who married Mary March/Marsh on 6th August 1773.

I have seen trees which list Benjamin Cottle (1718) and Edith Cunnock as Benjamin's parents, but they do not have any evidence linked to them.

Benjamin's death record has him as being born around 1751.

I would really appreciate a baptism record to tie loose ends together, or to link Benjamin to someone definite.

Many thanks.
