Dublin / Re: James Madden - Dublin 1754

Here is a previous thread - but it is not very helpful  :-\
https://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=832865.

Please would you give the information you have with regard to:
John Madden - where born, residence etc
James Madden being John’s father etc
How do you know the mother was Elizabeth Moore?

Were the family Catholic as previous thread states.

Hi Heywood,

I do appologise I have looked at the previous thread and I must have taken my lead from the response.

What I have collated is as follows.

James was a fringe manufacturer operating out of 11 Aston quays quay Dublin. Between 1801-1825 working between Dublin & Manchester trade button trimming warehouse/fringe warehouse.

I don’t have much on his son John just that he was married 1795 to Sarah ?
DOB 1775

I have no idea if they were catholic

Some of the information I have gleaned from ancestry Uk when I have searched James Madden the hit search button with Ireland selected.

Dublin / James Madden - Dublin 1754

I am carrying out some research on behalf of my cousin.
I have traced her maternal side to Ireland.

James Madden DOB 9 Feb 1754 Dublin. No date of death. 1820 Resident 11 Aston’s Quay Dublin.  Married to Elisabeth Moore. No further details.

I would like to try and go further back in the Madden family tree.  Also James Madden’s date of death and where he died.

I have his sons basic details John Madden DOB 1775 Ireland and nothing else?
I hope I have not replicated my work.

Keith

World War One / Re: WW1 David Drummond Oliver

He was a joiner in the shipping industry.

That explains why he didn't Serve in the Forces in WW1 - Hence no Records

Thanks I will explain to my friend.  Also by 1914 he would have been 42

👍

I have checked the full GRO entry for the 1951 death in case it was a mistranscription but it's definitely Drummond.

I see a tree on Ancestry also has his death as 1951

I am just wondering if the person who has given me the information may have got another member of the Drummond family mixed up with David having served during WW1? Or perhaps the Boer war.

The 1951 death is David Drummond - not David Drummond Oliver

David D married 1895 to Bessie Hayes.

Thanks for pointing that out CaroleW yes the marriage is correct

Over 60% of WW1 service records were burnt during the WW2 blitz

There is no entry on the Medal Roll index for a David D Oliver

Very interesting

I am trying to help someone to research their great grandfathers military service during the Great War.

I have tried to find any reference to him as having served during the Great War. His details are:

David Drummond Oliver DOB: 1872 Liverpool. He is listed in the 1911 census. I have found a death recorded 1951 Liverpool North.  What is interesting if he did serve in 1914 he would have been aged @42? Of course He could have lied about his age.

David’s father was Thomas Henry Oliver.

I appologise for not having much detail and any help will be appreciated

Armed Forces / Re: Korean War Medal
« on: Sunday 25 June 23 20:20 BST (UK)  »
I don't think the medal rolls for the Queen's Korea Medal have been published. How sure are you that he might have gone to Korea? Only 14,198 British servicemen went as part of the UN contingent, at a time when the Army alone was 364,000 strong, so fewer than 4% served in Korea.
Your best bet is to get his service documents from the MOD and then once you have his Army number, apply to the MOD Medal Office Historical Section to see if he was awarded the Korea Medal. The number, rank, name, initials and regiment of every recipient was engraved around the edge of the medal.

Thanks for the update, I am awaiting my cousins reply 👍
