The Common Room / Re: What is your Most Common Names in your Family Tree?
« on: Sunday 21 May 23 11:23 BST (UK)  »
I've never counted, but I know there are a lot of John's, William's, Elizabeth's, and Mary's. Thomas, Sarah, Anne and James get a good run too.
Also 5 Nathaniel's, and 7 Jonathan's have made research somewhat easier.

I suspect the mention of race is because the details are taken from an LDS site, not from the original register. Whilst the British recorders had no interest in race it was of much more importance to family historians in the USA.

That makes a lot more sense.

The mention of race in the marriage record is curious. I have never seen it before.
By inference, does it mean there were non-white people around Evesham?

I can't remember if public trees are available on Library Edition, Ruskie.
Here in South Australia, we were lucky to be able to access the Library Edition remotely during Covid lockdowns and restrictions.

The library edition has all the records to the best of my knowledge. You can't sign into your own account, so you cannot look at DNA matches, messages, or work on your own tree.

The Lighter Side / Re: Admitting defeat on some ancestors.

I concur with never say never.
Yes, London ancestors can be tricky at times, but this where thinking out of the square can help. As well as looking at all possibilities, look at all of the names of their children for any clues as to parents. Another laborious option is to look at any wills of pertinent surnames; you never know what come up.
I had an ancestor who married a widow in London. A good friend pointed out a middle name of one of their children which turned out to  be the maiden name of the mother. Coincidentally (and unrelated) it was also the surname of one of the church wardens of the parish.

Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / Re: Cornwall and Devon DNA
« on: Tuesday 11 April 23 11:18 BST (UK)  »
I too have Cornish ancestry. In fact, my maternal grandfather has 100% Cornish ancestry, proven without reasonable doubt. Kerrier seems to be the default location, despite my ancestors coming from places nowhere near there. And how does that reflect on my paternal Devon ancestors?

There is a player in our AFL whose name is Steele Sidebottom, pronounced as read.

I tend to agree with you, Simon.
