Hi Paul

Thanks for the welcome.

I'll try and look for you the next time I visit the Records Office. Perhaps you could let me know if you find any religious or occupational info.?

Hi Paul,

Sorry to reply belatedly, I've just joined the website.

I have some Speights in my tree, descending from Richard b.1680 in Capernwray (about 12 miles SSE of Kendal and 12 miles NNE of Lancaster).

Have you any more info?

Regards

Chris

Hi,

Sorry to enter your discussion at this late stage, but I have just joined the website.

A lot of this information already stated ties in with my findings also, as a distant cousin.

Reverting back to the beginning of your conversations, according to my information Thomas' first marriage was to Margaret Wildman at Holy Trinity (Parish Church) Kendal on 12 May 1829. They had 4 children - Thomas (1830), John Wildman (1831), Ann (1836) and Richard Willison (1838) before Margaret sadly died in 1839.

This is where I became slightly confused, re the census entry in 1841. If Margaret died in 1839 how could she be at Finkle Street, with the children, in 1841 unless the information given to the ennumerator is incorrect or I have the death of a different Margaret Gaskill. The missing father Thomas can be found as an ag. lab. working at Tullythwaite House, Underbarrow, with his mother's family the Willisons.

I think I can also shed light on the Towers connection (re 1851 census at Sawrey, near Hawkshead), as I have Thomas Towers married to Margaret Willison (Thomas' aunt). By this time, Thomas had been remarried to Jane Prickett at Holy Trinity, Kendal on 27 April 1850, and they proceeded to have another 5 children (plus an illegitimate daughter of Jane's from 1844).

It seems to me that we are talking about the same family. What do you think?

Best Regards

Chris

Westmorland Lookup Requests / Re: Barton & Cleminson (1800s)
« on: Sunday 30 March 08 12:29 BST (UK)  »
Hi Lee,

Have been unable to find baptism for Edmund, but transcription of marriage at Warton can be viewed at www.lan-opc.org.uk

Cleminson witnesses at the marriage most likely indicates that Margaret was baptised in Heversham in 1806, daughter to Thomas. Matthew (1802) and James (1810) are presumably her brothers, sons of Thomas, and Elizabeth may have been a cousin (2 also baptised in Heversham)?

Matthew's probable marriage may also be seen in Warton in 1831.

Hope this is helpful.

Good Hunting

Hi

I dont know if you have made any further progress, but during my own research, on a couple of occasions I have found children born to a second partnership when both their first spouses have died. For one of these, the parents were not married. Could Muckalt have been a surname from Catherine's first marriage, and not actually her birth name?

From the 1881 census most of the Muckalts listed lived in N. Lancs, with a grouping from the Furness area, so it may be worth you looking to the South & West of Sedbergh.

Good hunting

Hi,

Sorry to butt in on your conversations.

I have noticed a marriage for George Graham & Mary Moss on the IGI on 10 Nov 1833 at St Peters, Church Street, Liverpool.

Could these be the same?

I am trying to find out what happened to John Ledger Parkinson (b.1863) and Hettie nee Belton (b.1867) who were both born and married in Clayworth, NTT. After their marriage in 1890 they moved to Beckenham (1891) and were registered at King Edward Road, Barnet Vale with children Gertrude and Cyril in 1901. John is described as a Provision Merchant.

Unfortunately I live about 250 miles from the area, so I am hoping that some kind sole might be able to look at any Directories for the early 1900s in the Barnet area. I have been unable to find any marriages or deaths in the CRI and have therefore lost all trace of their whereabouts.

Any help will be gratefully received.

Thank you
