Hello VanessaT

yes, still around!

I have three photographs of Trengoffe (two interior, one exterior), I think I may have sent copies to Step52, but it could have been in 2008 through a Personal Message, and my email records don't go back that far!

However, I still have the photographs, so can send them directly to you. Please send me a Personal Message with your email address, and I'll be happy to do it for you.

I could also make contact with someone down there who may be able to tell me if the old gentleman who gave them to me is still around, and if he could give us any further information, if you like.

kind regards.

Devon / Re: Devonport North - street query
« on: Monday 02 April 18 14:04 BST (UK)  »
Hi, I got an email alert on this subject as I was originally enquiring after this street back in 2008.

Quite a while later, I found that the house I was interested in had been rented out, and that one of the people renting was my great grandmother's grandson (in the navy at the time), so that explained why she had been in the house at the time of her death.  I apologise if I should have let this board know my discovery at the time.....

Her grandson had been sent (via the local court!) from Bodmin to the Technical/Engineering school in Devonport, as he would not attend school, probably explains why he joined the navy afterwards.

Don't know if any records survive of his time there, it would be interesting to see if he is mentioned.
I may try and look this up when I have the time.

In the meantime, thanks again to all the people who make Rootschat such a success!
best regards.

Hi, and thank you for the lookup!

The name Margaret doesn't ring a bell. As far as we know she only had the one daughter, Norah, my husband's mother, and a son George Edward Brown. He died in 1971 in Farndon, Gosford, Newcastle.

George Delafield Brown, her husband, died in 1920 in Tynemouth.

Her home address was down as 49 St Lawrence Square, Newcastle.
The informant was F. Dixon of 182 Hillview Avenue, Newcastle.

I guess the next step would be to find where the burial was?

Thanks for your information to you both

The date she died was 11th January 1962, it was registered on the 12th

Kind regards

Hello

Just received the death certificate for Ida Brown!

She died in Newcastle General Hospital, Wingrove.
It gives her address, prior to going into hospital.

The informant, their surname and address is different and in that box it says "causing the body to be buried", not sure why that would be written like that (is that normal?), but now I guess I will be able to find out where she was buried!
Is it possible to find out what relationship the informant was to her?

Any advice would be much appreciated if you have any for me at this stage!

Regards and thanks

Thanks, JenB, for the electoral register info.

OK, I wasn't sure if I could divulge the '39 info on this board.

So - the only other person living at the property is a Charlotte Baker, born in 1906. Different schedule number, she's single, a fried fish shop assistant.

Ida Frances Brown married George Delafield Brown in 1903.  Their two children were born in 1905 and 1908.  The above lady was born in between, so what I am wondering is, why is Ida Frances living in a property, still a widow bearing the name Brown, and with no visible means of support? Were pension incomes counted as such, eg annuity? Could this other woman have a relationship with Ida of some sort?  I've checked other sources and she was born Charlotte Baker, in Newcastle upon Tyne.

I don't normally grasp at straws when trying to research my family tree, but Ida Frances is such a puzzle .....

The 1911 Census doesn't appear to show her in Newcastle, though.

Regards.

Yes, you're right, just looked at it again :

Ida Brown is a separate schedule number to the other person at the same address, occupation described as Unpaid Domestic Duties.  When I look at other people with the same occupation description, they seem to be wives.....

The only other person at 5 Argyle Street is a much younger woman but with a different surname, born in 1906.   - I wonder???  She has a retail type occupation.

Hello again

Have been searching through the information we put to one side a few years ago (!) and found that we never did get a copy of Ida Frances Davidson's birth certificate, I suppose we relied on the census returns  - realise now not such a good idea!

Have just bought some credits with Scotlands People and already received a downloaded copy of her birth registration:-  it confirms she was born on 16 October 1879.  So this tallies with the 1939 Register.
And have just downloaded her registration from the '39 Register. It shows she is living in 5 Argyle Street with an unknown lady. Nice to see the house marked on the town map, it shows she didnt go far from her old marital home.

Have also just got a download from the National Archives of a VAD medal record which could be her, although it doesn't indicate a geographical location.

Will now get the death certificate previously mentioned and see what info it gives.

Thank you very much for all the help you have given - I'll let you know how I get on!
kind regards
