Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / Date woman & child CdV, Gibson of Hexham
« on: Wednesday 29 September 21 14:07 BST (UK)  »
Am I right in thinking that this one is early-mid 1860's?

The woman is possibly holding a photograph - what do you think?

Thanks for any help you can give.

(No restoration needed  :) )

« on: Tuesday 28 September 21 14:58 BST (UK)  »
I'd really appreciate a date on this one by McAllan of Hexham please.
The back looks early 1870's to me. I don't have any others on this cardstock.
Expert guidance appreciated as always!

N.B. I do have full biographical details on this photographer.

Northumberland / New Northumberland place name resource

This is wonderful!

Over 15.000 place names, indexed by parish, browsable and searchable, based on the notebooks compiled by the Royal Engineer surveyors while working o the First Edition 6" Ordnance Survey maps. There are also fascinating snippets of information about the places, gathered by the surveyors.

The project has taken over 5 years to complete.

I would welcome opinions on the date of this group photograph, please.

Sadly I have no information about it whatsoever, and this is a scan of the original.

There is a woman in the back row who appears to be wearing some sort of slouch hat such as those worn by the Anzacs.

Any help most appreciated.

Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / CdV of small child, date please?
« on: Tuesday 03 November 20 09:01 GMT (UK)  »
I really can't work out what this child is supposed to be wearing  :-\

I have one other CdV by McAllan on this cardstock, which was dated to late 1860's.

A very similar cardstock appears here, l-h end of row three https://web.archive.org/web/20070203061150/http://www.cartes.freeuk.com/time/back60.htm

Was this vignette style being used at this time?

Any help with dating would be valued.  Many thanks  :)

I'd appreciate confirmation by the experts that I'm on the right track with this one, please

Going by her hairdo I'm thinking its early-mid 1860's?

Am I correct, please. I know that Thomas McAllan was operating as  photographer up here in the early 1860's.

Thanks for any help you can give.

No restoration/colouring required, please  :)

Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / Date please, CdV by Hunter of Hexham
« on: Monday 05 October 20 11:44 BST (UK)  »
Please could I have a date on this lovely lady?

My (inexpert) thought is that it could be late 1880's or possibly very early 1890's.

I know that Hunters were established in Fore Street Hexham by the mid-1880's at least.

The back of the card is completely blank.

Thanks for any help you can give  :)
