Good morning everyone! I have a puzzle that I really need some help with please. There is an ancestor of mine, Francis Johnson, born 10th Sept 1638, son of John Johnson and Hannah Throckmorton. On every bit of information that I have found so far, it says "of Ayscoughfee Hall, Pinchbeck and Clements Inn Middlesex. All of my Johnson ancestors so far, have originated in Lincolnshire, mainly around the Mareham Le Fen area.
Ayscoughfee Hall is in Spalding, and I know it very well. It has recently been renovated and is a museum. The most notable of its' owners in the past have been the Johnsons, (Maurice Johnson founded the Gentlemens society in Spalding) I think it likely that Francis is connected to these Johnsons if he was born in the hall, but I have no idea how to start unravelling the connections!
The second place name mentioned is Pinchbeck, which is just outside Spalding. Does anyone know anything about Clements Inn please?
Francis' father, John, was born in Hern Hill ,Canterbury, Kent.
Any ideas would be very welcome! Many thanks.

I have been trying to find out about Russell Hall, which is where some ancestors of ours were born, going back several generations.
I have been told that it was near Dudley. Eleanor Sutton Dudley was born there in 1653.  She  married Richard Attwood 1647 - 1715. These are direct ancestors of ours, so I am really interested to find anything  possible about them.
Also, Sedgley Hall, which was the birth place of  Eleanors' mother, Eleanor Jevon, born 1618. I understand that Sedgley Hall was the Jevon family home for several generations.
I haven't been able to find out where it was yet.
Any information would be great. Many thanks.

I wonder if anyone can help me please. I am researching our  Attwood ancestors. Edward Attwood, born c 1725, married Elizabeth Hardwick, also c1725. They were both born in Derbyshire, unfortunately, I don't know which parishes. The information that we have tells us that the Attwoods were wealthy woolen merchants in Derbyshire, at this time, and that is how they aquired their fortunes . The family story says that they had Catholic sympathies and backed the Jacobite rebellion, loosing their fortunes in the process!
They were related to Abraham Derby, who was connected to the Industrial revolution in Staffordshire, which may explain them being in Shropshire during the 1750s.
Does anyone have any ideas how I could find out  more about the Attwoods please? Would their be any trade directories or records going back this far?
Many thanks for reading this, I hope someone can help!

Northumberland / William Robertson 1892
« on: Sunday 06 July 08 23:23 BST (UK)  »
Hi, does anyone have a connection to William Robertson, born 1892, son of Daniel and Sarah , (formerly Williams)Robertson?
William was one of thirteen children, some born in Newcastle Upon Tyne, others in Barrow in Furness.
William married Theresa Smith, they had one daughter named Doris.who was born 21st May 1914. Sadly, William was killed during the first world war, Doris was only a baby at the time of his death. At this time Doris was living at 4, Glue Terrace, Elswick. Sarah and Daniel were living at 91 Beaumont Street Newcastle.
Doris later re married, to Joe Taylor. Williams' daughter, Doris, went on to marry  Richard Hepworth, and have a child, also named Doris!
Daniel was born in Greenock Renfrewshire, Scotland, and Sarah came from Halesowen. I would love to hear from anyone with information. Many thanks.

Lincolnshire / Stanley family ,Quadring Fen.
« on: Wednesday 07 May 08 18:20 BST (UK)  »
Hi everyone, I am looking for information on the Stanley family, who came from Quadring Fen in Lincolnshire. The furthest that I have managed to get back is to William, born c1786 in Quadring. His wifes' name was Mary, born c 1791 in Wigtoft. William was a farmer.   One of William and Marys' sons Anthony c 1821, married Sarah Marshall. She was born c1826 in Swaton Fen. Her family then moved to Pointon Fen near Bourne. Anthony and Sarah were married at Sempringham church in 1842. They settled in Quadring Fen. They had  quite a large family, one of their sons, Jesse, c 1864, married Sarah Garner, c 1862, from Gosberton. They were my great grand parents.
One person who is a bit of a mystery is Emma Stanley. She is listed on the census of 1881, living with her grand parents, Anthony and Sarah. Emma was born c 1880, in  Middlesex, London.  I haven't been able to find her birth on the free BMD site, does anyone have any ideas ?
Any information would be great. Many thanks.

Lancashire / The Flute and Attwood families, Huyton Quarry
« on: Wednesday 07 May 08 17:42 BST (UK)  »
HI everyone, I am looking for information on the Flute family. Ethel Flute, born aroun 1888 in Whiston Lancashire, she was the daughter of Joseph and Isabella ? Flute. Joseph was born in Staffordshire c 1871, and Isabella came from Whiston. she was born c 1869. The 1891 census says that Ethel has a little brother, Samuel, born c 1890. At this time they were living in the parish of St. Nicholas, Whiston. Joseph was a collier.
Ethel went on to marry William (Bill) Attwood. He was born c1888 in Huyton Quarry. The children that I know of were Arthur, Bella, William, Joseph, Fred and Ethel. It is Ethel who we are connected through. She married Ken Wright, from Lincolnshire. He was stationed in Liverpool for a few months during the war. At the time they met, Ken was in lodgings in St. Catherines' Avenue, Huyton Quarry, a few doors away from the Attwoods.
Ethel( nee Flute), passed away at quite a young age, our Ethel was only about nine at the time.
If anyone has any information about the Flutes or the Attwoods, I would be very grateful. Many thanks. :)

hi, can anyone help me with some information please? I have found my husbands' great Grandma living and working in Leicester before her marriage. Her name was Jane Coates c 1861, born in Long Sutton, Lincolnshire. She is on the 1881 census, along with 21 other people. I assume that numbers 51, 53, and 55 Market Place, Leicester St. Martin, was some sort of shop. There is a John Bilson, c 1857, nephew, who is the  head of household. The others are various servants, milliners, drapers, mantle makers and sales women, and apprentices. There are four others from the same area as our Jane, the rest are from all over the place, including the Isle of Man!
Does anyone have any information about these buildings? Was it usual to live above the shop in those days?
Any help would be gratefully received. Many thanks.
